THE SECOND TIME AROUND

A poem by John Cody & LW Shelton

It’s the second time around

And I’ve lost again. I’m not going

Nowhere that I haven’t been.

I can see now, that it’s the

Same old game, but with a

Different set of rules.

I gave you true love, and

You played me for a fool.

Milwaukee’s best or the king

Of beers want make it hurt no

Less I sit and think just smoke,

And drink to fill this emptiness

The laughter of the barmaid

Brings back reality to a heart

That’s torn between the bottle

You and me

.

I’ve had this role before its

AN easy one to play to be

The FOOL ITS OH SO COOL

Or so the poets say.

But its not so smart upon my

Part to have it hurt this way

A broken heart, lonely nights,

And tear filled eyes, is the price

I had to pay……………………

For the second time around.
