Soyuz Booster
The model is a 1/69 scale representation of the venerable Soviet space booster. All the nose cones and balsa transitions were made by BMS. The paper transitions and shrouds were made using VCP's transition pattern tool. The booster section returns via a 24" chute and the payload section returns in a sling fashion with an 18" chute. It has a 24mm motor mount.

The model ended up weighing 8.5oz. First (and only) flight was on an E18-4W. It was a very nice, stable boost to quite a respectable altitude (at least 350'). Ejection was right past apogee and both chutes deployed perfectly. Unfortunately the wind conspired against me as the upper section landed in the top of a 100' tree. There was no way it was coming down. I went by the park for several days but it was still there. I checked about 2 weeks later and it was gone. I will have to rebuild the Soyuz portion. When that happens I'm not sure. I have many other things in work right now. At least the Soyuz proved to be a good, stable flyer.
