This was Estes' 1/34 scale model of the Mercury Redstone used to launch Alan B. Shepard on his sub-orbital flight.
This particular model is actually the revised Centuri version offered by Estes in the mid 1980's. I had built the original Estes kit long ago but at the time my modeling skills left much to be desired. I had built the Centuri based Redstone about 11 years ago and it had always performed flawlessly. However, time had taken it's toll on the model and I decided a makeover was necessary. So I recently finished a refit that refurbished the paint, decals and some minor modifications to the structure. This reborn Redstone should be around for a few more years of service.
