The National Kidney Foundation is a voluntary health orginization in the United States, its main goal is to prevent kidney and urinary tract disease. They help out families that have been hurt by kidney problems, and try to increase the availability of good kidneys for transplant. The NKF specializes in research for different kidney disease like Chronic Kidney Disease, kidney stones, and cancer.The NKF helps ease the pain and stress that familes undergo. The foundation finds suitable doners if a new kidney is needed, or helps with the process of dialysis to either keep people alive, or to support them as their kidneys weaken.
The National Kidney Foundation has many branches across the world. The Singapore NKF was founded in 1969 by Dr Khoo Oon Teik. The American branch was founded in 1950 and the headquarters are in New York City. The NKF as branches in every state and donated time and money to the victims of the hurricanes in August 2005.
There are many ways to help the National Kidney Foundation. The most fulfilling way is to donate your time and be a volunteer. If you want to donate money, there are several ways to help fund their public education, patient and community services, research, professional education and organ donation programs. First and easiest is a money gift in your name to help support the foundation or the NKF Patients Hurricane Relief Fund. One way my family helps out is by giving away our old clothes and cars to help the less fortunate. Another way is a slight rip off of the Lance Armstrong “LIVESTRONG” bracelets. The cause is good, and you could save a life or two by donating. For the more active person, the NKF holds Kidney Walks that raise awareness of the dangers of kidney disease as well as funding for research and healthier kidneys. A better smelling gift would be a donation of flowers. With the right promotional code, your gift of flowers to someone also helps out the National Kidney Foundation. Golf Tournaments are also held in nearly every state to bring together good golfers for a great cause. You can support the National Kidney foundation just like one of over seventy corporate sponsers.
