Battle Begins on Beg, Borrow and Deal with NFL Passes
09/17/2002
If this resembles Lost or Amazing Race with a sports twist, you got it! Beg, Borrow & Deal debuted Tuesday night on ESPN with two four-member teams in Time Square faced with completing 10 of 40 sports tasks each.
The two squads (some last names available), the Red team (Julian Bryce, Tony, Aubrey Aquino and Katie) and the Green team (Josh Gage, Kelli, Juliet and Bubba) headed out with no money, no cell phones and only their own ingenuity.
Juliet helped the Green (later renamed Cobi) team to a 1-0 lead when she and her teammates convinced strangers to let them borrow cell phones to call Juliet's friend Summer Sanders. The task: have a picture made with an Olympic medalist. They managed to get through to the former host of Figure It Out and the pic was a done deal.
At show's end, Cobi member Gage managed to talk New York Giants p.r. director Pat Hanlon into letting them into the Giants' training area. The second task: catch a 35-yard pass from Giants
quarterback Jesse Palmer. All four managed to snag the pass, though Juliet needed several opportunities amidst other Giants griping about wanting to use the facility. Cobis lead, 2-0.
The Reds had a rough first episode. They were stranded in New York City for nearly a day. Katie managed to call her parents, who drove to Manhattan and carted the foursome back to their home in Elmira. Katie was left calling frantically in an effort to set up a basketball game at Elmira State Prison.
