Geraldine Elaine (Neatfeld)LaNier was born on March 16, 1935 to Olive and Henry Neatfeld. She had two brothers and five sisters. Mom grew
up in Port Clinton, Ohio and she passed away in the same town of her birth on November 30, 1999.
My mom and dad were married on June 2, 1956. I have pictures of the wedding and she was a beautiful bride. I can't believe how young she looked then. I think that was the happiest time for her except of course when she
had us.
Mom had a lot of difficulties in her life. She knew she was loved. I wish there would have been something I could have done to help her, but the problems she had she had to deal with herself. Only mom could ask for help. I just don't think she was ready to ask yet.
When our dad passed away, things changed dramtically. I always
thought my mom was a strong person but I think she went through
so much it weakened her in some way.
About a year after my dad died, mom remarried and even if I didn't
like it, she was happy again. For that I was grateful. They were
together for a long time when Ralph was diagnosed with Alzhemers.
He went downhill from there. He passed away about a year later, another
thing for mom to cope with.
It was too much for mom to bear. She had lost two husbands, and I really
don't think she thought she had to much to live for. I think mom took all
she could take. How I wish I had been there for her more. I love her so
much.
When mom passed we were all there with her. My sister Jackie, was singing
Angel when God called her home. No more pain for her to handle, just peaceful
sleep. She is truly my angel in heaven.
I will miss her terribly, but she lives on in my heart. I have precious
memories no one can take away. I will always love you mom.
