The patio went quite quickly at first. The area near the house had dried out quite well and there was plenty of sand left by the builders that could be graded and tamped for the paving stones to be laid on. As had got further away from the house, where heavy rains had already washed away a lot of the grading, we had to add sand to build up the area again. In the end, we ran out of time and sand, but that's a caption for another photo.

The area around the paving stones, seen in this photo, will be filled with pea gravel eventually.
