The Golden Arrow Part Eight A fic by Blue Rose "Why isn't it working?" Dermail snarled. He grabbed Lady Une by the shoulders and shook her violently, "You did it wrong, didn't you. Vile bitch!" A shot from a revolver was fired, grazing Dermail's shoulder. "Don't touch her," Treize said, his voice was terrible. Just as Dermail opened his mouth to speak, the arrow began to rattle and glow. The altar began to shake, and the arrow oriented itself so the tip pointed to the heavens above. They watched as an emerald green light surrounded the arrow. The whole room shook violently and stones from the walls clattered to the floor. A black mist rose up and parted to reveal a scene. Blood poured from the altar like a seemingly endless stream. "Grab the arrow and run!" Treize yelled over the din. Lady Une ran to the altar's center, the blood stained her white skirt as she grabbed the arrow. It stuck solid. As she struggled to pull it out, something grabbed her by the foot and threatened to pull her under. At last she broke away and ran. She grabbed Treize's hand as they dodged the falling boulders and the lava flow of blood chasing them. Duke Dermail stood stock still, his face ashen. He seemed to be paralyzed by something beyond his control. Just as Treize and Lady Une reached the outside of the temple, the whole place went up in flames. The flames were wild and bright red, looking as though they came from the sun's very core. Lady Une watched, unconscious that she was still holding Treize's hand, " I guess it's lost forever." She said quietly. "It's better this way," Treize replied. "I'm glad Dermail froze like that," Une responded. "The bastard deserved it." Treize laughed softly, "we should get back to London." "What do you mean, we?" Une asked. "You're coming with me, aren't you?" Treize asked. "Where else have you to go?" She smiled at him. "I'd like to come with you," she said. He squeezed her hand, "Good." As they stood, transfixed by the roaring flames, the sun set behind the clouds. And the golden arrow lay buried until the end of time. * The End*
