The Golden Arrow: Part Six

Treize, Lady Une, and Selzek arrived at Duke Dermail's estate just outside of
London. But he was not there, the place was deserted.
"Hello?" Lady Une asked timidly to the echoing stone walls.
   "Duke Dermail?" Treize's voice called.
They peered into a stained-glass window, but it revealed nothing but
dust.
"I bet they got him too," Selzek said, nervously scouting the grounds for
the thugs who had assaulted Une earlier.
"You mean Dermail was involved in the golden arrow too?" She asked.
"Yes. He and your father went on the trip together."
"But this house looks as though it hasn't been lived in for months. The
men that attacked Vinion Une came suddenly and violently. There's no sign of
a struggle anywhere." Treize commented.
"He has a point," Une said.
"Well, no use standing around here." Selzek said, still looking as though
he expected someone to jump out and attack them.
"Where should we go then?" Une asked.
"To find Dermail, of course!" Treize said.
"What?" Une stuttered. "Are you crazy?"
"No. We've started on an adventure, we can't stop now. Just because we've
lost one lead doesn't mean that we should.."
But Treize never got to finish his speech. A group of men came out of the
bushes.
"Well, well" one of the thugs chuckeled, "Nice to see you again, Miss
Une." The group of men drew their revolvers. "We never got to continue our
conversation from earlier. Now, where is the Golden Arrow?"
   "I don't know," Une stammered.
"All right then, Miss Une. You and your company will be coming with us."
The thug with the gun lead them into the back of a wagon. They got in
reluctantly.
"They're going to kill us...They're going to kill us..." Selzek mumbled
to himself in the dark wagon.
"Shut up!" Une shouted. "You're only making things worse." She began to
cry softly.
Trieze wanted to go to her, to tell her everything was all right. But he
didn't want to risk her slapping him or something. Something about Une
fascinated and frightened him at the same time.
"My Lady." He said, drawing closer to her.
She fell into his arms, crying. He held her close, letting her cry into
his shit.
"I've been strong so long." She whispered. "All I want to cry for a
little."
