"Jax, you don't have to carry me over the threshold now. We're not married yet." Chloe said with a laugh.

"I know, I'm just practicing." Jax said as he gently laid Chloe on the couch, smiling at his fiancée.

That charming smile, Chloe thought to herself. Little did she know that today was going to be so wonderful. It had started out as an ordinary day; Chloe finishing up the dresses for the Nurses' Ball, Jax leaving for a meeting in New York. Then, Chloe got the strangest call from Lila. "Why would Lila want to see me at this late hour?" she had said to herself. Chloe, who was only expecting a chat with Lila, was unprepared for the surprise that awaited her: Her lovely blue dress, beautiful red roses, and a note to meet her love in the gazebo. "What sort of romantic thing are you up to now, Jasper Jacks?" Chloe thought. So Chloe dressed up and stepped outside onto the patio. Jax suddenly surprised her as he wrapped his arms around her waist. He felt so strong, but he had such a gentle touch. "Close your eyes." He whispered. Jax led her to the gazebo where they had first met. There, he surprised her with dinner and dancing. He told Chloe that they were celebrating. "Celebrating what?" Chloe had asked. "Our anniversary." Jax said with a smile. "Exactly one year ago, I saw you run out here soaking wet and complaining about a broken shoe." Chloe almost cried. She couldn't believe that he had remembered that it had been one year since their first encounter. When they danced, Chloe was lost in the moment, letter herself melt in his embrace. As they danced, rain began to fall. "Did you plan that too?" Chloe asked. "Well, as much as I would like to take credit for that, no, it's just a happy coincidence." Jax said. The thunder was loud, but the rain was gentle. Then, Jax slowly pulled away and held her at arm's length, and he proposed to her.

"Chloe, did you hear what I said?" Jax asked.

"Huh?" Chloe asked.

Jax just smiled. He knew what was occupying her thoughts just a moment ago. "I'll light some candles."

Chloe, still reflecting on the day's events, smiled lovingly at her future husband. "What?" Jax asked when he caught his lover's gaze.

"You look so sexy in that tuxedo."

"Really?" Jax grinned widely and joined Chloe on the couch.

"Mmm-hmm." Chloe leaned forward and her lips met his. "You look even sexier without it though." Chloe whispered as she grabbed hold of his jacket. "Maybe we should just take this off."

"Yes ma'am." Jax said as Chloe slipped the jacket off his shoulders. Jax wrapped his arms around Chloe and pulled her into a kiss. Chloe rubbed her hands along Jax's chest. She could feel his muscles through his shirt. Her hands found his shirt buttons and she slowly began to remove his shirt. Jax moved his hands up and down Chloe's back until he found the zipper to her dress. He then moved his hands to her shoulders and slowly pulled the straps of her dress down. Chloe wriggled out of the straps and let the dress fall to her waist. Jax removed his hands from Chloe for only a moment so that she could slip his shirt off, which she mindlessly dropped to the floor. Jax moved his hands around her neck, then into her hair. He took out her hair clip and Chloe's golden tresses fell to her shoulders. As he kissed her neck, Chloe tightened her grip around Jax's back, pulling him closer to her body. Within moments, the rest of their clothing lay strewn on the floor and they made love by the light of the moon and some candles.

After their lovemaking, Jax and Chloe laid wrapped up in a blanket together. Jax held Chloe close as her head rested on his chest. Chloe held up her hand to admire the diamond ring on her finger. "I love my ring. It's beautiful." Jax smiled and kissed her on the head. "Jax."

"Yeah?"

"Do you have any idea how happy you've made me? I have dreamed for someone like you to step into my life for as long as I can remember. When I was a little girl, my mother would always read me these stories, these fairy tales, where the handsome prince and the beautiful princess would see each other for the first time and just know it was meant to be. Love at first sight, you know? And I always believed in that kind of love. I had seen it happen to people I knew, and it happened to Lila and Edward. I just never believed it would happen to me. But then, there you were, standing across from me in the gazebo and holding a glass of champagne."

Jax kissed her gently on the forehead. "I'll make all of your dreams come true, Chloe. Whatever you want, it's yours. If you want the moon or the stars, just ask, and I'll give it to you. It's yours for the taking."

Chloe sat up and looked into Jax's eyes and smiled. "I already have the moon and stars." She then leaned closer to Jax and kissed him.

"An occasion like this calls for some very expensive champagne." Jax grinned and held up the bottle and two glasses.

"Mmm, my favorite kind of champagne."

You know, "I think my shirt looks better on you than it does on me."

Chloe laughed. "Well, what can I say? I admit it. I like to steal your shirt so I can admire you without one."

"Hmm, sneaky girl." Jax placed the glasses on the coffee table and poured the champagne.

Chloe then felt herself being lost in the moment again. Ever since the night they had first made love, Chloe knew in her heart that she and Jax would be together for the rest of their lives, but the moment Jax slipped that ring on her finger made it seem more real. Chloe stared lovingly at Jax as she thought of their future together.

"There's that grin again." Jax said as he handed her a glass. "What are you thinking about?"

"I was just-no, it's silly."

"What? Tell me. I won't laugh."

"Well, I was just imagining what our children might look like. You do want children, don't you?"

"Oh yeah, definitely. We'll have a whole house full of them. I was thinking we could have maybe five or six." Jax said with a huge grin.

"Oh shoot, I was hoping for seven! I guess we'll just have to compromise and go for six, huh?"

"Yeah." Jax and Chloe laughed. "You'll be a wonderful mother someday, Chloe."

"You think so?"

"I know so. I knew from the moment you bonded with Brooke Lynn that you would be a great mother."

"Oh, Jax! You just gave me the most wonderful idea!"

"What's that?"

"Brooke Lynn will make an adorable flower girl!"

"Yes, she will. So, when do you want to get married?"

"As soon as possible!" Chloe said in excitement.

"Then soon it will be."

"I really like the idea of a June wedding. After the Nurses' Ball, of course."

"Then it's settled. The weekend after the Nurses' Ball, you and I will be husband and wife."

Chloe shook her head yes and smiled. Then, they clinked their glasses together. Jax then stood up and held out his hand. "Would you like to dance?"

"I would love to."

Jax picked up a stereo remote and turned on some music. He took Chloe in his arms and they danced in the candlelight.

I see the crystal raindrops fall
And see the beauty of it all
Is when the sun comes shining through
To make those rainbows in my mind
When I think of you some time
And I want to spend some time with you
Just the two of us
We can make it if we try
Just the two of us
Just the two of us
Building castles in the sky
Just the two of us
You and I

We look for love, no time for tears
Wasted waters's all that is
And it don't make no flowers grow
Good things might come to those who wait
Not to those who wait too late
We got to go for all we know

Just the two of us
We can make it if we try
Just the two of us
Just the two of us
Building castles in the sky
Just the two of us
You and I

I hear the crystal raindrops fall
On the window down the hall
And it becomes the morning dew
Darling, when the morning comes
And I see the morning sun
I want to be the one with you

Just the two of us
We can make it if we try
Just the two of us
Just the two of us
Building big castles way on high
Just the two of us
You and I

After dancing, Jax kissed Chloe softly and scooped her up in his arms.

"Are you practicing carrying me over the threshold again?" Chloe laughed.

"I was thinking more along the lines of practicing for the wedding night." Jax said.

"Well that sounds like much more fun. And if our wedding is only a month away-"

"Then we have a lot of practicing to do."

"And practice makes perfect."

"That's right." Jax and Chloe laughed as they headed for the bedroom.

Later that night, Jax and Chloe laid in bed in each other's arms. Chloe moved her body on top of Jax's and begin to kiss his chest. "I love making love with you. You feel so good next to me." She said in-between kisses.

"It'll be like this every night."

"Mmm-hmm."

"So, where do you want to go for our honeymoon?"

"Hmm, the most romantic place in the world!" Chloe said, and then resumed kissing Jax's chest.

"Well, that sounds good, but the only problem with that is that at the moment, the most romantic place in the world is right here in this bed with you."

Chloe laughed. "Then how about," Chloe placed her lips to his ear and whispered, "naked in a fountain?" Chloe then explored his neck with her lips.

"I think you read my mind."

"Then Rome it is."

Jax then wrapped his arms around Chloe. "Hey, come here, you!" Jax gently rolled her over. "It's my turn to cover you with kisses!" Chloe laughed as she and Jax disappeared under the covers once again.

Sometime in the middle of the night, Chloe woke up. She smiled when she remembered the gazebo and the way Jax so sweetly proposed to her. For a fleeting moment, she feared that it had all been a dream, but her fears were alleviated when she realized the ring was still on her finger and she could feel Jax's arms around her, holding her close to him. Chloe watched Jax sleep for a while. She then put her head on his chest and listened to his heartbeat and felt him breathing. It wasn't a dream. Chloe was right where she belonged: in Jax's arms.

THE END
