Chapter One

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
[Author's note: the story picks up where "The Dance" episode left off.]
Jasper Jacks was a clever man. He knew when the guards changed shifts. He knew where the supply plane was. More importantly, he was able to figure out why the past few weeks had been so confusing. Like the woman on the island, who resembled Brenda very much. And the woman in Paris who resembled Brenda even more, the woman who could easily pass as her twin. But she wasn't Brenda. Neither of them were. He had finally figured it all out.
After days of secret planning, he decided that tonight, he would put his plan into motion. And the sooner, the better. A very special lady was waiting for him, counting on him. Slithering past the guards, Jax made it to the supply plane. By the time he started the engine, the guards were already on to him. Jax knew he had no time to waste. Shots rang out through the still night air, but the plane was already gone.
"Mr. Cassidine is not going to like this." One of the guards commented in a thick European accent.
"No, he's not." The other guard replied back.
Chloe, still teary-eyed from crying, grabbed her sandals and meandered outside to the patio. Memories of Jax still continued to invade her. She had been so lost in her thoughts that she didn't even remember walking to the beach.
Chloe sat down on a rock and wrapped her arms around her knees. She buried her face and started to weep again. Chloe could hear Jax's words repeating in her head. She tried to stop thinking of them, but that only made her think of him more. "…I love you, Chloe. I love you, Chloe..." The words kept echoing in her head, becoming louder and louder. So loud until she could have sworn that Jax was right there. "Chloe."
Chloe jumped. She heard it again. But Jax wasn't there. He couldn't be. Chloe sighed. First her crazy dreams, and now, she was hearing things. I really must be going out of my mind, Chloe thought.
"Chloe."
Chloe jumped and rose from her seat on the rock. No, she definitely heard something, and it was *not* her imagination. "Whose there?" she called out towards the bushes.
"Chloe, it's me." Someone said in a whispered voice.
Jax appeared from out of the bushes, and Chloe suddenly felt all of the blood drain from her face. She stood completely motionless. Her legs would not budge, and she felt lightheaded from the shock.
Jax smiled weakly. He looked like he had been through quite an ordeal. "I'm so glad I found you."
The shock Chloe felt eventually passed, and it was then that Chloe realized that Jax was actually there, standing right in front of her! Jax smiled when her look of shock materialized into a huge smile. "Jax!" She cried out and ran into his arms. "Jax! You came back to me! You came back!"
"Shh!" Jax cautioned as he held her tight.
Chloe lowered her voice. "I knew you would find me!" Tears started flowing down her cheeks, but they were happy tears. She held onto Jax so tight as if she never wanted to let him go ever again.
Jax held Chloe's face in his hands. "Of course. I'll always find you."
After a few more seconds of holding each other, Chloe pulled away. "Jax, wait, I, I don't understand. What happened with Brenda? Did you find her?"
"It wasn't her, Chloe. It was a set up. Look, we don't have time to talk about it right now. We have to go." Jax started to tug at Chloe's arm, but she still wanted answers.
"You mean Helena set you up too?"
"Honey, what are you talking about?"
"Helena. She set you up with Brenda! And she's holding Stefan and me on this island. Did you know that? Stefan's alive-"
"Sweetie, Helena has nothing to do with this. She wasn't the one who set us up. Stefan is the one who perpetrated this whole plan."
"What?"
"Chloe, we can get into the details later. I have to get you off this island!"
"Hold it right there. No one's going anywhere."
[Back in Port Charles-remember, it is earlier in New York time]
Ned walked into L & B with flowers behind his back. A smile came to his face when he saw his fiancée talking on the phone, but his smile faded when he noticed that Alexis was troubled by something.
"Yes, I'll keep you informed…alright, good-bye."
"Who was that on the phone?"
"That was Therese. Chloe had a fashion show tonight in Milan and she never showed up for it."
"Well, she's away with Jax."
"Yes, I know that, but it isn't like Chloe to just not tell Therese that she wouldn't be there. They had to cancel the show. According to Therese, she hasn't spoken to Chloe in weeks."
"What?"
"Yeah. She's been trying her cell phone repeatedly but she gets no answer. And earlier today, Tony called and asked if I had heard from her. He said that he doesn't want her to delay her radiation treatment any longer. After that, I decided to call Lady Jane and John, and they haven't heard from Jax. And even I have tried both of their cell phones. Still, no answer! Ned, I'm really starting to freak out here. They haven't even called us! I mean, at first, I was thinking, well no news is good news. But, Ned, I'm starting to worry now!"
"Okay, calm down." Ned sat down beside Alexis. "Jax and Chloe have been through a lot. I'm sure they are just fine. They've probably been so wrapped up in things that they have not had a chance to check in with anyone."
"They've been so busy that they can't even check in with us? Oh no!"
"What is it?"
"Ned! What if it's Helena?! Oh my god, how could we have been so stupid?! Ned, Helena is probably still after Chloe! What if she has got to them?"
"Alexis, I think you're overreacting. Let's not jump to conclusions yet."
"Ned, can you honestly say that you're not worried?"
"No, I am worried. Let's not think the worse, okay? I'll make some phone calls."
"Alright." Alexis sighed. She hoped and prayed that Jax and Chloe were safe. They were like family to her, and after losing Stefan, she couldn't bear to lose them too.
Jax and Chloe looked behind them to see two angry guards with guns pointed at them. Jax instinctively tightened his grip around Chloe to protect her. Chloe, with fear in her eyes, held on tighter to Jax as well. She had already been separated from him once. She didn't want to be separated from him again.
"Jax." Chloe whispered, barely audible and scared out of her mind.
"Shh, it's okay." Jax coaxed.
"Well, if it isn't Mr. Jacks. So, we hear you have been causing somewhat of a ruckus tonight at the other island." One guard said.
"You can't keep us on this island forever." Jax said, angrily.
"Neither of you are going anywhere." The other guard said.
From behind Jax and Chloe, another guard came and attempted to take Chloe from Jax. In a reflex action, Jax turned around and punched the guy in the face. He fell to the ground and Chloe screamed. The two other guards lunged at Jax and Jax began to fight them off mercilessly.
"Chloe, run!" Jax shouted.
"No, not without you!" Chloe shouted back.
"CHLOE, I SAID RUN!"
"NO!" Chloe impulsively hopped on one of the guard's back in an attempt to pull him away from Jax. "Get away from him!" Chloe pleaded. Meanwhile, the guard that tried to grab her before came to and got off the ground. He grabbed Chloe.
"JAX!"
