| Reporting other people's words often requires you to introduce statements with 'said' or other reporting verbs such as 'report', 'point' and 'recommend'.
Notice how these verbs are used to change direct speech into reported speech.
Examples:
Direct Speech | Reported Speech | "My department has 1,000 students." | The department chair said his department had 1,000 students. | "It's hard to study accounting and work at the same time" | Dr. Russell stated that it was hard to study accounting and work at the same time. |
