This page will be your homepage for the activities designed especially for you to make studying Chapter 5 of Looking Ahead 2, as easy and enjoyable as you want it to be. The activities go in the order of your chapter so you may desire to go through the activities while you are actually learning about the chapter or use it as a revisionary practice, or even as a diagnostic tool to know your strengths and weaknesses.

1. Learning and Using Key Terms
Based on activity 5-1 & 5-10, this crossword gives you a chance to understand key terms taken from college catalogs and brochures.
2. Understanding Key Termrs in Education

Another crossword puzzle that builds on the vocabulary in Activity 1 and expands to include the rest of those in Activity 5-1. With the previous activity, you establish the vocabulary needed for the readings of the chapters and the readings used in the activities that follow.

 

3.Descriptive details of college degree and career planning. Based on the reading "Freshman composition", p. 118, this multiple choice activity practices distinguishing between different types of descriptive information of an academic course and recognizing ways of experssing them. The activity enhances your awareness of the descriptive informational writing.
4. Identifying descriptive details of an academic office Based on the reading "The student Academic Computing Center" p. 119, this multiple choice activity has the same objective of Activity 2, but the description is about one of the campus' buildings and the services it offers.
5. The grammar of describing: present tense vs. past tense Based on the reading "The counselling Center" p. 121, this fill-in-the-blank exercise practices mixing present tense and past tense. While the topic of the reading is the same as that of activity three, the text is richer in the grammar of its tenses as it imbeds a narration in the past.
6. Examining Verb Tenses in a Paragraph Based on Reading 3 p. 119, this multiple choice activity will practice the grammar rules in the GLR by answering why each verb tense was used.
7. American Degree Programs This scrambled sentences exercise is based on the reading p. 124. Organizing the sentence parts depend on meaning clues and grammatical ones. The exercise will help you be prepared to the vocabulary demand of the following activity on the same text.
8. Identifying Voice in Present Tense Verbs Based on the reading p. 127, this short-answer activity tests your ability to identify the voice of verbs and the subjects of their sentences.
9. Identifying Noun Phrases Based on the reading p. 129, you are asked to list the noun phrases for each of the sentences in the paragraph.
10. Identifying Noun Phrases' Functions Based on the same reading of activity 9, in this matching activity, you will be identifying how each of the noun phrases you sorted out in the last activity function in the sentence.
 
11. Identifying Noun Phrases' Parts Again using the reading of activities 9 and 10, you are to match the noun phrases of the text to their constituent parts. The activity that follows gives more practice in this.
12. Analyzing Noun Phrases in Academic Vocabulary This is based on the vocabulary list from a course entitled Introduction to Art History, p. 130. This short-answer activity gives more examples of noun phrases and help in honing your skill in labeling sentence parts.
13. My Goals and My Major Based on the Reading p. 131, this multiple choice activity is aimed at reminding you of the content elements for a good composition describing your goals and major.
14. Question formation Based on Activity 5-23, this scrambled sentences' activity will help you form grammatically accurate questions while conducting your assigned interview.
15. Using Reported Speech Based on Activity 5-26, you will be practicing reporting direct speech before you actually report the results of your assigned interview.
