Author's Notes

All right, here’s where I – as the author – get to tell you what exactly is going through my mind when I write certain parts in the ways that I do. A ‘method to my madness’, if you will.

1/2/07: So, it's been almost three years since I updated this page. Shame on me.

At any rate, today marks a special occasion. I've finally finished the ‘Lost Chapters,’ so you can finally expect the storyline to move on. I'm so glad I've finally gotten over this hump in my writing. I've been so occupied with my other fics that I've been neglecting this story. For those of you who've stayed with me this long, I thank you for putting up with me. I promise that you won't be disappointed with the new storylines. ^_^

1/11/04: Me again. Yeah, who else, right?

Anyway, I've once again delved into the murky depths of the past and brought up a new chapter of the ‘Lost Chapters’ series. I've finally got myself the entire Sailor Moon R season on DVD, so there's no more excuse. The ‘Lost Chapters’ are getting done.

Finally.

After that, I will once again return to our regularly scheduled story, already in progress. ^_^

One more thing: If you've noticed, I've only been referring to Chibiusa as Usagi, or rather, ‘younger’ Usagi. It's because she hasn't been given the nickname ‘Chibiusa’ yet. Remember, her real name is Usagi, not Chibiusa. But, you already knew that, right?

9/8/03: Time again to venture into the realm of the Author's Notes. Damn, yet another long spell since the last update. I gotta stop doing that....

Now that I'm but a chapter and an epilogue away from finishing the fourth series of the Earth Scout Chronicles, it's about time I let you know that I'm not jumping straight into the Sailor Moon S season. No, in fact, that season is not until series #10!

Yes, I said 10.

Ten.

One-zero.

Believe it or not, there are going to be five new series between the Sailor Moon R season and the Sailor Moon S season. And here you probably thought I was just going to write out the Sailor Moon script and just insert Sailor Knight in it, didn't you? Bad reader. Bad, bad reader. Go take a time-out. ;Þ

Anyway, because of these series, the seasons of Sailor Moon S, SuperS, and Stars may be different from the anime and the manga. Of course, seeing that this is an alternate reality, that should go without saying, shouldn't it? ^_~

3/27/03: Quite a long time to be without an update to the Author’s Notes, don’t you think? Considering everything that’s been going on, perhaps it’s understandable, but still, I’d rather try to keep things as current as possible. So, without further ado....

Yes, yes... I know I haven’t completed the ‘Lost Chapters’ yet, but at least I did finish up the Doom Tree series. I will eventually finish up the remaining missing chapters, but it’ll still be a while before I get the opportunity. In the meantime, there’s still the remaining chapters of the Black Moon series to finish, then off to series #5. Wow, five series already. ^_^

I’ve had someone mention to me that the Japanese names for Emerald, Diamond, and Saffire are Esmerodo, Demando, and Safiiru. I already knew that when I first started revising this story. The only reason why I never changed the names is because I felt they sounded better like this. Personal preference. It’s my story, so I have that right. Of course, you’re not gonna hold that against me, are you...? Hey, where’re you going?

Also, I know my new chapters are coming less frequently than would be preferred, but my job keeps me very busy. Furthermore, I am also working on three other shorter stories: ‘Seeing Stars’, ‘The Question’ series, and ‘A Grail?!?’. If you want, you can also take a look at these stories. You can find them at the following sites: Aria’s Ink under the penname ‘Sailorknight’; FanFiction.net under my own name, ‘Jason Ulloa’; or A Sailor Moon Romance under the penname ‘Sailorknight’. I’ve been told that they’re pretty good.

9/18/02: As you know, this is the second revision of the Earth Scout Chronicles so there are going to be some things that are different. One thing that will be new for this page is the fact that new entries to the Author’s Notes page will be entered at the top, instead of the bottom.

Now, let’s start at the begining. You may have noticed I changed Sailor Knight’s name from Jason to Ryoku. You may be thinking, “Oh, it’s just so it won’t look like another self-inclusion fanfic.” Once again, you’re WRONG! It’s just because I wanted to use the original Japanese names for the Sailor Senshi. Remember, my personality and Kino Ryoku’s personality are totally different.

Okay, now that’s done. ^_~ Well, another thing you’re probably wondering is why did I choose Jupiter as Sailor Knight’s sister or why did I choose to make him the brother of a Senshi/Scout in the first place? Well, to answer the latter part, I needed him to be of royal birth during the Silver Millenium, so he had to be someone’s brother. He couldn’t be Endymion’s, since: 1) He’s Tuxedo Kamen and he’s not supposed to know any of the Senshi/Scouts during the Moon Kingdom series, and Ryoku isn’t the kind of person to hide things from his siblings... well, except for one that one matter with Keiko, but that’s different. He wouldn’t hide his identity from his sister. You’re probably gonna say that he didn’t tell Makoto until she became Sailor Jupiter. Well... he was gonna tell her anyway, so it’s not like he was gonna keep it secret from her. 2) Mamoru was the only survivor of that car crash that orphaned him. I would prefer to keep it that way for simplificational purposes. As for Jupiter, she reminds me somewhat of my own sister, so it’s easy for me to guess how Makoto would act if she had a brother. Another reason was that Makoto had no family besides herself, since her parents died in a plane crash. I wanted her to have at least one living family member, so she wouldn’t be alone.

So, now you’re wondering, who’s Keiko? Ah, that’s the big question, isn’t it? Well, that answer will have to wait until you read Chapter 39.

In case you haven’t noticed, my style of writing is a blend of three forms: the original Japanese version, the English dub version and my own twist on the story. As the epic progresses, I will move further toward the Japanese version; then finally, after the Japanese 200th episode, it’ll be just me. ^_~

That’s about it, for now. If you have anything else you’d like to see explained – why I did this, where’d I get the idea for that – then just ask.

Here’s some more answers to questions you may, or may not, have. Hey, you know what they say about being prepared….

You may wonder why I said Aosora Academy, instead of Shikai, which is where the Kino siblings had transferred from. Well, that other school is also important to the story, which you’ll find out in a later series. As for why I changed those schools names as well… why not? If I’m going to call Usagi’s junior high Juuban, then why not use Japanese names for all the schools, including the ones I’ve made up?

One last thing – A girlfriend at 10 years old? Yes, it is possible. In fact, that’s when I had my first girlfriend, although it wasn’t that serious. So, there.

You might be wondering why I chose yet another bording school for the meeting of Keiko and Ryoku rather than use Aosora Academy which I’ve already mentioned. No, the school where they met wasn’t the reason why I mentioned the school. You will find the real reason in time….

Been a while since I wrote anything in here…. Well then, it’s about time I did, isn’t it?

Rei’s anti-evil wards are referred to by their rightful name: ofuda scrolls. Also, the chant that she speaks before shouting ‘Evil spirit, begone!’ – Rin, Pyou, Tou, Sha, Kai, Jin, Retsu, Sai and Zen – is taken from the anime itself.

Another thing, I bet some of you are glad I kept the original human names of Ail and Ann: Seijuro and Natsumi. As you may know, the dub gave them the same name in both forms, which in my opinion, wasn’t very creative. Oh, well. To me, having different names helps the reader – that would be you – tell in which form Ail and Ann are in, not as if the reader couldn’t figure it out, but mainly for clarificational purposes; to be sure there’s no mistake.

Also, you may be wondering why I’m taking so long with writing the chapters now. Well, it’s mostly because I have other writing projects and real life to deal with. Not that I’m not going to finish the fic – heaven forbid that! – but, I just don’t have the time that I used to. I’m not stopping until all 34 series – well, 34 so far – are finished. It’ll take quite a while, especially since I’m only on series #4, but this is something I enjoy doing and something I’ll hopefully enjoy doing for years to come.

I took a quick look in my guestbook and I’ve noticed something that had caught my attention. Someone had mentioned that Mamoru should be considered the Scout/Senshi of Earth and as such, the position of the Earth Scout/Senshi should already be filled.

Well, in a way it’s partially true, however, not in the way it was implied. Yes, Mamoru is a senshi, but not a Senshi. The difference? Senshi in Japanese roughly means ‘soldier’, right? So, yes, he is a senshi. But as for being a Senshi, that’s another story. A Senshi is a Sailor Scout/Senshi. Only females are allowed to be Scouts/Senshi, though Sailor Knight is a special case. He is only using the Earth’s Scout/Senshi powers through a link created to convert the feminine Scout/Senshi powers into a masculine form which he can use. Mamoru does not have this ability, but then again, he doesn't really need it, does he?

After a very long break from the last chapter I wrote for this fic, I have finally returned to continue from where I left off…. Well, not exactly right where I left off, but close enough. So, why is the author of this particular fanfiction story skipping a whole bunch of chapters, you ask? Because he has a very poor memory.

You see, whenever I write a chapter that’s taken from an existing episode, I always double-check to see who said what and when, not to mention where. Sure, there’s gonna be some stuff different – that’s a given – but, some things will still remain the same. That’s the way a good portion of the previous chapters have been written. But now, until I can watch those episodes, I won’t be able to write those chapters… at least, not very well. And I don’t like releasing any chapters until they’ve gone through a rigorous debugging. The author hates seeing spelling errors in his own work.

Also, you may have noticed that I’ve put up the chapter names in the Table of Contents page, but have left them linkless. Well, I just wanted you all to know which chapters I'll be writing in the future, when I do see those episodes. However, at this point in time, I am in the process of writing the rest of the chapters for the Doom Tree series. I have jokingly called this group of chapters the ‘Lost Chapters’.

Another thing you may have noticed is the presence of the three R movie chapters. Yes, even though the R, S and SuperS movies never took place in the anime storyline, they will take place in this fic series! I will make them fit! So, there! ^_^
