Description: Ryoku looks remarkably similar to his sister – they have been occasionally mistaken as fraternal twins since the family resemblance is very strong between them. His hair is a few shades darker than Makoto’s and is shorter. He wears his hair in a ponytail as well, but his hair is bound at the base of his neck, where Makoto’s is bound at the top of her head. They are the exact same height. His eyes are silverish-gray color and he has an average build, despite his being very strong.
As Sailor Knight, he tends to be the most serious of the group. He is very loyal to Sailor Moon and is dedicated to protecting her and the other Scouts. Although physically he is the strongest Scout, powerwise he is the weakest, mostly using his powers in conjunction with the other Scouts’ powers. He was the third Scout to be found by Luna.
During the Silver Millennium, Ryoku was the prince of the planet Jupiter and brother to Makoto. When Queen Beryl invaded, Ryoku was sent to the Earth to assist Prince Endymion during the first assault, but was ultimately defeated and retreated to the Moon. After realizing what a dire situation they were in, Ryoku volunteered to take on the duty of the Earth Scout; a position left empty for lack of anyone able to fill it. An excruciatingly painful linking proceedure was initiated to endow both Ryoku and his pair of swords with the powers of the Earth Scout, creating the Sailor Scout known as Sailor Knight. Also, during that time, Ryoku fell in love with the princess of Mercury, Princess Ami. He was killed during the last battle in the war against Beryl, at the hands of the combined power of the seven Shadow Warriors, and reborn in the present.
Ryoku is – obviously – the only male Sailor Scout. His transformation powers come not from a transformation pen like the other Scouts, but from the swords he carries. He was transferred from his old school for fighting, having sent three people to the nurse’s office. He and his sister live by themselves, since both their parents died in a plane crash years ago. His sister is the only family he has left.
Ryoku is the kind of person who will tell you the truth, regardless of how you might take it. He takes his personal honor very seriously and will do whatever has to be done to keep his word once he gives it. At first, his personality was one of someone who is hiding a deep emotional pain behind a cold, stoic and occasionally cynical demeanor. Almost five years before he first became Sailor Knight, he witnessed the kidnapping and subsequent death of his first girlfriend, Hisakawa Keiko. This traumatic event left him in a extremely depressive state, as he felt that he was too weak to protect the one he loved. He vowed that he would never again fail to protect the ones he cared about, even at the cost of his own life. This kind of attitude sometimes confuses the other Sailor Scouts, as they are sometimes unsure if he is either extremely dedicated, or if he is harboring a suicidal mentality.
After Keiko died, Ryoku lost the will to smile. Even now, after meeting and befriending the other Sailor Scouts, he cannot smile… at least, he cannot give a full smile. It has been believed that the reason behind this is because part of him died when Keiko died and because of this, he cannot smile as he once had before.
When he first met Ami, Ryoku was astonished at the striking resemblance between her and Keiko. When he started to realize that he might have feelings for Ami, at first he doubted them, thinking that he was only seeing her as another Keiko, but after getting to know her, he still fought his feelings, thinking that to act on them would mean the betrayal of Keiko's memory. To avoid this, he went as far as to help Usagi set Ami up with Ryo, even though it was very hard for him to do so. After he learned from Minako about her past as Sailor V and seeing her face the same kind of tragedy that he had been running from, he soon realized that he, too, needed to come to terms with Keiko's death. On the anniversary of her death, Ryoku visited her grave at the cemetary and promised her that he would learn to live again.
Currently, Ryoku and Ami are dating, but he is still reluctant to go too far into a relationship, despite how he feels for her. He realizes that part of him is still clinging to notion that he must remain true to Keiko, but he also realizes that he can’t keep denying what is in his heart. It is this constant conflict in his heart that keeps him from experiencing life and love as others do.
Sailor Knight’s items:
The Knight Swords are a pair of swords that Sailor Knight used to transform. One has a pair of crossed swords on its hilt, the other has a combination of a crescent moon and the Earth’s symbol on its hilt. They were Sailor Knight’s first transformation items.
The Star Sword was made by fusing the two Knight Swords together using the powers from the other Sailor Scouts’ four transformation wands. It has Sailor Knight’s symbol on its hilt. The Star Sword also has the ability to make its blade retract within its hilt and reemerge by mental command. It is Sailor Knight’s current transformation item.
He has a communicator which allows him to call the others when needed. His new communicator is shaped as a wristwatch.
Sailor Knight’s powers are:
Knight Swords Power: This transforms Ryoku into Sailor Knight. This transformation phrase worked with his Knight Swords.
Knight Star Sword Power: This transforms Ryoku into Sailor Knight. This transformation phrase works with his Star Sword.
Earth Thrust: This produces a large stone spike which he throws at an enemy.
Volcanic Flare Explosion: The most powerful of his first-level attacks. Sailor Knight’s stone spikes are infused with enormous heat energy until the spike explodes, releasing a circular wall of fire suspended a small distance above the ground near the enemy. A moment later, an eruption of volcanic magma flows rapidly through the circle of flame, engulfing the enemy.
Avalanche Barrage: Sailor Knight fires a barrage of small stone spikes at an enemy. This attack can wear away hard surfaces, such as walls or armor.
