The filling station was modeled after one at 76th. and National in West Allis (Milwaukee). Fortunately I did not make any drawings, (drawings would only have made me more concerned with dimensions than symmetry) and the proportions came out closer to the station at First and Walker in Milwaukee, which is actually on a former streetcar line. The roof was built by casting spainish tile roof in Alumilite, removing the part before it was fully cured and wrapping it around a tin can and allowing it to harden. The roof sections were then cut to shape and sanded, filed, puttied, heated, bent, sanded again, bent again, etc. until they fit together and had the right contours. (Unlike styrene, Alumilite and other urethane casting resins can be heated without melting.) The remainder of the building was scratchbuilt by more traditional methods.
The barn behind the station was built from the leftover walls from the IHC kitbashes on the previous page.
The two storey building was built from small pieces cut from DPM's Oddfellows Hall. The dateblock in the cornice was made of numbers from a Grandt Line dateblock kit and putty.
The left hand four storey building was built from three DPM Apt. Building fronts, with a scratchbuilt storefront.
The fire escape on the Magnuson Grain Exchange was built using Preiser wild animal cages for the platforms and Central valley stairs and railings.
The streetcar is a modified Bachmann.
