| Summary: This is our baby, and for the sake of other aspiring fans, should you choose to be one, we offer a little summary of Rose of Versailles. It's French History all over, a lot of heads chopped and the gruesome reality of war... ok so maybe I am exaggerating. RoV is about the era before, during and a bit after the Revolution. The main character, Lady Oscar is a noble who because of military tradition was raised as a man to continue the Jarjayes family lineage. Oscar becomes the commander of the Royal Guards and is in charge of watching over the crown Prince Loius 16th and Marie Antoinette. We see the trial and tribulations of both royalty and of the poor. We see important points in history such as The Diamond Necklace Affair, the storming of the Bastilles and the fall of the Monarchy. Episodes: 40 Movies: 1 live action (not recommend, it's not that good) Personal Opinion: I must admit this is my favorite anime of all time. It has a lot of drama, suspense, light humor and is heart wrentching. It has that fine quality that is not found in most animes nowadays. It is a completely different genre, historical and serious. It is not your common Shoujo anime, if it can be considered one at all. You will surprised on how accurate the events are and how ingeniously Rioko Ikeda used minor characters. The anime is exceptional for the time that it was done and it is just gorgeous till the end. Yet, for those of you that noticed the sight diffence in the style after Oscar and Andre grew up, no it's not your eyes, they just changed directors. Ranking: I have seen it more than 20 times, does that say anything? 5 of 5 |
