*Past Memories* Ryan: What do you mean? I'm on top of the world here, Adam. Last night was a huge success. You realize that we raised over half a million dollars for the teen pregnancy program. Adam: Well, let's hope you don't have to spend it all on legal fees and spin control. Your party last night was like a night out in Sodom and Gomorrah. Ryan: Ah, everybody got a little bit loose, but that just means that they were having a great time. It was a party. Adam: It was -- it was mayhem. Vanessa Cortlandt lost a necklace worth half a million dollars. Poor Laura English practically drowned. Ryan: No, those were two fluke accidents. And I was part of Laura's rescue team, Adam. Adam: Oh, really? Well, tell that to your insurance company. I just hope somebody doesn't sue you. Ryan: Sue me? Wait a minute. Wait, wait. You don't think actually somebody would -- why would they do that? Adam: Ryan, Ryan, Derek Frye was here snooping around. Doc Martin? He was mentioning muttering something about food poisoning. What if the press gets wind of this? You can't afford any negative publicity. Ryan: Hmm. Yeah, I suppose I should probably call my PR company. Adam: Yeah, I suppose you should. You're a dream peddler. How's the public going to react if they find out that your ship of dreams turned into a nightmare at sea? Jake: You didn't have to sneak in through the back way. Gillian: I wasn't sure if anybody was here, and I just assumed your parents wouldn't want to see me. I don't know. Maybe I just didn't want to see them. I disappointed them so terribly. Jake: Wait a second. You're worried about disappointing my parents? Gillian: Of course, Jake. They've all been great to me, and I care about them. I loved being a Martin. Jake: Oh, you loved being a Martin. You know, I'm beginning to think that's what this attraction was all about in the first place. You buy one, you get the other for free. Gillian: No. No -- that -- no, that's not what I meant. Jake: Well, that's what you just said, Gillian. I mean, you love being a Martin more than you love me. I feel like I'm the unfortunate complication in your life. Gillian: Jake -- Jake: Ok, now I'm beginning to realize what this is all about. I mean, some guys are going to wave diamonds and material things in front of your face. And me? All I have to do is just wave mom, dad, and apple pie. Gillian: Don't be so cold, so bitter. It's not you. Jake: Well, then don't you be a hypocrite. You slept with me. You made love with me. You tell me you're in love with another guy? You came in here to get your things. And I bet my life on it, Gillian, you're going to take them directly to Ryan's house. You know, now that I am a man again, you just seem to want me to wish you well and smile and go on like nothing happened. Gillian: Oh, I don't expect you to do that. Jake: You don't expect me to do that. You know, I think what we have to do here -- I think you better leave. Just leave and come back later and get your things. Gillian: No. I'm not leaving, not like this. Ryan: Adam, trust me, it's going to be ok, all right? Have a cup of coffee. Mateo: Just the guy we wanted to see. Hey, Adam. Hayley: What are you doing here, Dad? Adam: I was about to ask you the same question. Ryan: What's going on? Mateo: Uh -- Hayley and I saw Arlene here last night. Ryan: Uh, impossible. She wasn't on the guest list. Mateo: Like that would stop her. Anyway, we wanted to talk to some of the crew men. Maybe they saw her -- the guys that run the launch. Ryan: Yeah, sure. Except there's only one full-time crew guy. The rest I just hired for the party. Hayley: Oh, great. There goes that. Mateo: Don't worry. We'll track them down. Ryan: What's going on? Did she do something to you? Mateo: Can we talk to that guy -- the full-time guy -- now? Ryan: Yeah. Sure. I'll go get him. Mateo: Ok. Ryan: Hayley, can you please explain your father to me? Hayley: Not in a million years. Why? What did he do now? Ryan: Well, he started to lay into me about the party. He thought it got too wild. He thought it would put my company's future at risk. Mateo: Adam tends to overreact. Ryan: What if he's right? You think he's right? Hayley: Well, the piece I shot for "Wave" will be positive. Ryan: Oh. Mateo: I mean, who cares what he thinks? You know? You were the there. How do you think it went? Ryan: Well, as far as I'm concerned, everything went exactly the way it should have. Gillian: Jake, if I walk out that door now, we'll never get past the hurt we both feel right now. Jake: Oh, so once again, you think by staying you're going to make things better. Gillian: Jake, I don't want you to hate me. It is hard enough already to imagine my life without you. Jake: Gillian, I won't hate you. If you're here to ask for a divorce, I won't contest it, so just bring on the papers, and I'll sign them right away. Gillian: That's not why I want to talk to you. Jake: So now you don't want a divorce? Gillian: No. That's not what I'm saying. Joe: Jake, what's taking you so -- hello, Gillian. Sorry to have interrupted. Gillian: You think I only stayed with you out of pity, Jake. But you're wrong. I do love you. Jake: Oh, but not enough, Gillian. Not the same way that you love Ryan. Gillian: No. And staying with you wouldn't be fair to any of us. Jake: Then why didn't you leave? I told you to go. I practically threw you out of here. Gillian: Because I couldn't leave seeing in how much pain you were. Jake: Oh, and you say you didn't pity me because of my injury? Right. Gillian: Jake, I didn't leave out of love and concern for you, and maybe my choice was wrong. But knowing in how much pain you were and seeing how you were still trying to do what was best for me, I couldn't go. My heart couldn't let me go. Jake: Well, your intentions certainly were honorable, Gillian. You earned your stripes. Just don't ask me to say thanks, ok? No hard feelings. Gillian: I don't. Look, this is my fault. I believed it was over. I believed that you had given up on us, so I did, too. Jake: Then came Ryan. Gillian: He tried to let go, but he couldn't, and I couldn't, either. Jake: Right, right, right. Because you didn't love me as much as you do him. Gillian: Because you didn't love me as much as he did. Jake: How could you possibly even say tGillian: I didn't realize today was a holiday or I wouldn't have come. And you probably all feel like I've let down the family, and you have every right. But I want you to know that I never meant to hurt Jake. And I will feel nothing but love and admiration for this family. And I am proud and honored that for a while I was part of this family. Gillian: Good-bye. Dixie: Gillian? Hey. Gillian, wait. Whoa. Hey. Gillian: Dixie, they probably all hate me now. Dixie: No, they don't hate you. They don't hate you. I don't hate you. In fact, I like you so much as my sister-in-law I insist that you be my friend. Gillian: Really? Dixie: Yeah, really. Gillian: You don't think I'm a horrible person? Dixie: No, I don't think you're a horrible person. Oh, come on. I understand. You love Ryan. It's that messy, mess-up-your-life kind of love. That's what Tad and I have. [Gillian sighs] Gillian: Why does it have to be so hard? Dixie: I think maybe because it makes you grateful. Gillian: You take care of Jake. Dixie: I will, ok? And you just be thankful that you have Ryan. Be thankful that you have a real, true love in your life, ok? I know I am.hat? Gillian: Because you were my husband, Jake. And when things got too tough, you chose to save the world. You just left. Gillian: Perfect timing. Ryan: I figured you could probably use this. I thought you probably ran into the whole martin family over there. Gillian: Yeah. They were all there. Ryan: That must've been very difficult. How'd it go? Gillian: It was rough. Jake and I talked and I apologized to the whole family. Ryan: I should've been there with you. Gillian: No. No, no, it's better you didn't go. Oh. Dixie was wonderful, though. She reminded me how important it is to never let go of your true love. Ryan: I'll drink to that. Gillian: How about you hold me first. Ryan: Oh, it's all going to get easier from here on in, Princess. What do you say that we lift anchor and we sail to the Caribbean? Gillian: You want to hijack this yacht? Ryan: Well, yeah, I thought that might get a little bit messy, so I bought it. Gillian: No. You did not! Ryan: Yes, I did. Yes, I did! With my own money. Don't worry, don't worry. My own money, and there's going to be more coming in and I want to rename her. I want to call her Princess. Gillian: No. No, it's really -- it's bad luck to rename a boat. Ryan: No such thing. No such thing, not with us. Not with us. Come here. We have our own ship of dreams now, Princess. All we have to do is set sail and watch them come true. |
