Personal Log – Cmdr. William T. Riker

As part of our mission we on occasion host receptions.  This time we were hosting the Kareen a highly telepathic society who now had to learn to vocalize their thoughts so as to deal with the Federation.   It began as the usual function, small talk here, small talk there; small talk everywhere. That didn’t last long how could it?  Luxanna Troi was on aboard and liaison to the Kareen.

I did my best to avoid her and only really succeed when Deanna walked in.  My entire attention was focused on her… every now and then I am surprised at her beauty.  Working with her on a daily basis I have become immune to her exquisiteness.  Then there times like this when I discover it all over again.

I watched as Mother Troi guided Daughter Troi to the delegate leader – Mayqueez.  Being a telepath helps in many areas, but I didn’t need to be a telepath to read that situation.  Mother was setting up Daughter.  Anyone else and it would have been funny, however as it was I didn’t appreciate Luxanna’s efforts.

There is an ancient saying that confession is good for the soul.  I don’t mind confessing right here and now that the name Luxanna Troi strikes the fear of God into me and my Captain.  So! If the name has such an effect - the presence of the formidable telepath is an experience most of us would gladly dodge!

Imagine the near coronary I suffered when….

Well picture it.  A few days later there I am with fellow Bridge Officer, Colleague and Imzadi Deanna Troi when with no warning … none what so ever … Mrs. Troi suddenly appears grabs me and states for all of Ten Forward to hear “Let go of her! If it wasn’t for you she’d be married by now!”  Now I know Deanna’s mother is eccentric but at that particular moment I would have faced a battalion of Klignons bent on war.

Yep Luxanna Troi … I say no more.  Except that later I found out that she was not well.  I don’t know if that explained her behavior or not.

As a result of that illness Dee had to enter her mother’s meta conscious. I don’t mind telling you that I feared for her.  First of all Deanna could get lost in there and second Deanna is not a full telepath.  As a Betazed/Human hybrid she could really get lost in there… and I told her as much!

I’ll be damned if I was about to lose a good Bridge Officer, an irreplaceable Colleague and MY Imzadi on an experiment!  But I finally had to resign myself to the fact that she was going in.  I suppose she HAD to… its family.  I couldn’t be there for the first foray.  That I regret. There are days when duty can be a pain in the A - S squared.  Having heard the way she snapped out of the link I ensured that I was there for the second attempt.

When it comes to that woman my usual behavioral patterns change. Would you believe that I prowled the corridor outside med lab?  I couldn’t go in!  I needed to be close but could not watch! Me First Officer of the Enterprise… Deanna would have a great time analyzing that one!

Thanks to all Gods she survived…. maybe I’ll still tell her.

Turns out that Dee had a sister who died when Dee was a babe.  I wonder if I would have been man enough to be entangled with three Troi women?

I thank all Gods that I will never know.
