Personal Log of Deanna Troi

Out here in space every experience is more bizarre than the last and I always find something in the event to make it personal.

Take this last experience.  It wasn’t a mission it was an experience...  well we were on a mission but that took second place to what happened.  Sorry I’m babbling.

Once we go to the assigned coordinates we made a discovery that many would doubt and I wouldn’t blame them.  There in a suspended in a transporter beam was Chief Engineer of Enterprise the first was Montgomery 'Scotty' Scott!  Seventy-five years after he disappeared there he was large as life and twice as natural.

The man is not a legend for nothing.  He was in a deteriorating atmosphere and had the presence of mind to power the transporters from tricorders and placed himself in a beam. Unfortunately he was the only one to survive.

Imagine the stresses. Well I don’t have to. As Counselor and empathic I knew what he was going through. The loss of a colleague, finding himself in a new time and new society and being seventy-five years older and losing the time too!  Stress that would break normal men.

Scotty as he insisted in being called did find it hard.  What was hard for him was that it seemed he was no longer needed. The best thing was to place him with Gerodie. At first that seemed to go all wrong but in the end it was what was needed for Scotty, Geordie and the Enterprise.

As for me it showed me the price of progress. How older persons are still perceived despite our advanced society.

But most of all this has shown me that once one wraps themselves in dignity… then all is not lost.

I dedicate this entry to Captain/Chief Engineer Montgomery Scott.

Computer end program.
