Story Written January 7, 2002

Personal Log.

 

She is my mother and I love her deadly. But there are times when I would happily trade her for a chocolate ice cream.

My dear mother Lwaxana arrived on the Enterprise unannounced and proclaims to anyone with ears to hear that the pre-arranged marriage of her darling daughter Deanna to the son of her late husband's best friend is to take place.  My mother has pulled some stunts in her time and no doubt will pull some more, but … this one… this one defies all.

 

BUT! I am a dutiful daughter (in public anyway) and I smile and braced myself. 

 

Can you imagine? With one sentence my life was to change! Wyatt Miller was a medical doctor so that at least made us compatible for I am a Physiatrist.  He seemed nice and he was polite and a gentleman.  But I had to seriously consider leaving the Enterprise and her crew and Imzadi.  I found him in a holosuite sulking.  I was at pains to explain to him the obligations involved and the different aspects of love.  That was one of the most difficult encounters I have had.

 

I think that for the first time Will re-evaluated our mutual agreement that we were to be friends as we served together.  I know I have thought about that decision often. But all that became redundant in the face of my fiancé.

 

Then the fat hit the fan. Wyatt’s dream girl arrived. I mean it … literally!  It seemed that he had been having dreams of her his entire life and now there she was on board a plague ship. Before anyone could assimilate the problem he had boarded, effectively tying his fate to hers and her family and like that the wedding was off!

Personal Log of William T Riker.

 

Granted. There are tribes on Earth that still practice pre-arranged weddings – but Betazeds?  Somehow it never occurred to me that a society such as theirs should practice this tradition.

 

I am a man of my word but there are times when I am sorely tested. I was prepared to watch Deanna Troi marry one Wyatt Miller. Now under normal circumstances he would be a nice enough fellow, but these were not normal times. He came here to marry MY IMZADI!

 

I really had no reason for this to bother me so. After all we have not been intimate for a long time. We are friends and we agreed to remain friends.

 

But computer I tell you solemnly I was damn glad when that Wyatt Miller went off with Ariana… the girl of his dreams.
