With
another “ripped from the headlines” story JAG went controversial with this
episode. The CBS.com poll of February
6, 2002 placed the concerns into one question: “When in a foreign country,
should you adhere to its local laws and traditions?”
As
with all controversy it depends on the side of the fence that you stand
on. Missionaries came to the New World
and converted every man Jack to Christianity; given half a chance Islam will do
the same to Christianity. Who is right?
Who is wrong? My personal position is when in Rome and all that… but then the
counter argument is that whether this right for the Islamic sisters over
there? Where I had no hesitation and
totally sided with Lt. Donato was when the men in her team decided to testify.
It
is one thing to leave the base and flout domestic culture, religion and Allah
knows what else … it is quite another to be on base and to be so restricted as
to have the policy affect unit cohesiveness.
Despite all; the debate will rage for eons to come; if not about the
burqua
then it will be
about something else. East is East and
West is West and never the two shall meet. All credit to DPB and company on
even tackling the subject in the first place.
Then
there was Bobbie and Sturgis. MEN!
Really… on a first date one should try to be more considerate of each
other and going to a restaurant where one has to be a gymnast to sit is not the
way to go. Having said that Harriett
and Bud seemed to handle the seating arrangements with little problem.
The
way to a man’s heart may be his stomach but the way to Congresswoman Latham’s
seems to be children. Little AJ is well
on his way to capturing every female’s heart at JAG. Watch out Singer!
TPTB
finally seem to be giving us (or at least me) a Mac I can recognize. If love is going to diminish her (as with
Mic) then please keep her far away from Harm.
It was good to see the fire in the gut as her position changed from “Acts
of frustration are lousy reasons for disobeying standing orders, Lieutenant…”
to one of having worn the garment only once she finally could take it no more
changed her mind regarding the case and informed Harm “You heard it when I
felt it.”
All
in all another good episode; which featured the majority of players no matter
how fleetingly.
Out
of a possible five smiley faces I give it a four.
