TWO DAYS LATER
PATIO AT JAG HQ
Mac was seated
alone finishing up her lunch when Harm walked up.
“Hey stranger.” He
sat. “Missed you the past couple of
days.”
“Really.” Was all
she said.
He noted her
reserve. “There a problem?”
“What makes you
think there is a problem?” She replied as she began cleaning up the evidence of
lunch.
“Well take your
attitude now.”
She paused. “Did you come over here for a reason?”
“Yes! I miss you. I
miss us. What is going on?” he pressed.
“This is not the
time and place for this.” She stood.
He stood as well.
“Now EXACTLY the time and the place. We don’t see each other but for work and
even then it’s strained.”
She glanced around
to see if any one was observing them.
“I have told you more than once that I was not happy with what we had
evolved into. You never wanted to hear
me out on the topic. In a nut shell you were happy I was not.”
“It’s him isn’t
it?” He accused.
She sighed and sat,
he mirrored her action. “Harm I need more than what we had become. We had degenerated into sex only. I wanted more. You did not. It was unfair
to both of us.”
“Then it is him.”
He realized. “Why didn’t you say
something?”
“I gave up trying.”
“Mac …” He
hesitated as he began to realize the damage done. “I… I love you.” She stared at him in shock. “I DO!” He emphasized. “I don’t want to loose you. I suspect that I
may have already but I must believe that it is not too late to do the right thing.”
“I don’t know what
to say.” She was flabbergasted.
“Say you’ll marry
me.”
“Excuse me?” The
shocks were coming in fast and furious.
“Marry me.” He
repeated.
“But…” she was lost
for words.
“I know the
Doctor. Look think about it and while
you do hold on to this.” He opened a
small box and showed her an exquisite engagement ring. “It belonged to my
father’s grandmother and has been passed down to you.”
“I can’t take
this!”
He scoffed “Of
course you can. I trust you not to pawn it.” He grinned and stood. “Just remember I love you and given a chance
I’ll do right by you.”

Luckily Mac had no
court appearances, as she was unable to function.

2030 LOCAL
MAC’S APARTMENT
“Mac.” Anton called
for the umpteenth time.
“Mmmm sorry you
were saying?” She replied.
“Forget what I was
saying you are not here with me. What is wrong!” he asked.
She was about to
say nothing but decided to tell him.
“Harm asked me to marry him today.”
He tensed. “And?”
“And I don’t know!”
She stood and walked to the window.
“It seems to me Mac
that you do.” He told her.
“How can you say
that?”
“Look at this
objectively.” He chuckled at the use of words. “You are dating one man and you
ex proposes. You didn’t say no to him.
Did you?”
She shook her
head. She didn’t trust herself to
speak.
“You didn’t say
no. That tells me I should bow out.” He
rationalized.
“NO!” She said.
“Yes!” He insisted.
“Can you walk away
from me that easily?” she accused.
“No.” he assured
her “But I love you and as such my priority is you.”
“What ever happened
to alls fair in love and war?” she was crying.
“War lost out to
love.” He stood walked across the room and kissed her on her cheek. “I love you Sarah Mackenzie. Be happy and if
you need me just call.”
With that Dr. Anton
Shiva walked out of the apartment and Mac’s life.
Mac fell on the
sofa and cried.

Seated in his
jaguar Anton cried. He didn’t usually
cry but this time he did. He finally
sobered up but the car in gear and headed for the Airport. The Hotel could
forward his belongings later.

The cell phone rang.
“RABB!”
“Come to me.” Mac
said.
