GEORGETOWN PARK

“Hey Matt.” A young woman sat next to the twenty year old. “What’s up?  You seem a million miles away.”

He grimaced.  “It’s my mom.”  Matthew Marquis Jr. was concerned about his mother.  His father had died five years earlier and he was now man enough to realize that she had cut herself off, and that that was not healthy.

“What about her?”  She asked.

“I think that it’s about time that she dated again.  I didn’t at first but now…”

“Now you realize that she’s a babe and it ain’t healthy for her to cloister herself away like that.  It’s been five years no?”

“How do you know she’s a babe?” He demanded.

“Seen her picture in your locker.” She explained.

“AJ how is it you always seem to read my mind?” he grinned.

“I hear it happens between couples.” She teased.

“Really?” He reached over and kissed her.

“So knowing you as I do … do you have a plan?”

“Not a one.” He admitted.

“Ah then this is where I step in.” She offered. “My dad…”

“Your dad!” He exclaimed.

“Why not! We cured him of his club foot, the hunch is gone and you barely notice the limp!” She teased.

“Sorry. I just hadn’t thought of your dad for my mom.”  He apologized.

“That’s ok I hadn’t either. So what do you think?”

“A blind date? Can you really see my mom and your dad going for a blind date?” he asked.

“So we get devious.” She replied. “Now that I have my heart set on it I will not be turned!” She jumped up and proclaimed.

He chuckled and stood to join her “You’re a nut case you know that?”

“Your nut case.” She kissed him.

“Yeah my nut case.” He agreed.  “Wanna beltway burger? Sorry… forgot you don’t eat dead stuff.”

“Compromise.” She offered “Chinese.”

“The lady’s wish is my command.” He bowed.

IL PIRATA RESTAURANT

Matt and AJ had positioned themselves in a strategic location where they could observe without being observed.

“I have come to the conclusion that my mom divorced my dad cause he could never be anywhere on time.” AJ glanced at her watch.

“It’s 1909” Matt informed her automatically.

She frowned “Will you never tell me how you do that?”

“Genetics.” He smiled.

“Look here he comes.” AJ indicated.

The waiter brought the tall distinguished looking man to the table where the beauty was sitting.

She looked up and gasped. “Harm?”

“Mac?”

“Oh this is too funny!” She declared.  “Sit!”

“I was supposed to meet my daughter here.” He explained still stunned at seeing his former partner after so long.

“And I my son.  I smell a conspiracy here.” She said.

“It smells strong too.” He concurred.

“Hell we are here might as well enjoy.” She offered.

“May as well.” He called the waiter.

THREE HOURS LATER

“AJ?” Harm spotted his daughter as he stood waiting for Mac to join him.

[Damn caught!] She thought as she flashed the Rabb grin. “Hey dad.”

“Don’t hey me young lady.” Harm admonished.

Mac joined them. “Don’t try to hide from me Matthew Marquis.” She called on her son.

“Mom.” He began.

“Don’t mom me.”

“Can’t we go some where less public to get the **treatment**?” Matt begged.

Mac looked at Harm. “I know a place with great coffee.” She said.

MAC’S HOUSE

The four sat sipping coffee and Mac was finally ready.   “Talk and make it good.”

“Nothing to say. We felt that our folks needed to get out a bit.” Matt replied.  “You are both single and work hard but don’t play much.”

“AJ?” Harm asked.

“AJ?” Mac echoed.

“Angelica Jordan Rabb.” Harm expounded.  “But really AJ for the Admiral.”

“Nothing else to add dad.”

“…and there you have it.” Harm said to Mac.

“Sounds like the making of the Brady Bunch if you ask me.” She grumbled, “Where did the two of you meet anyway?”

“Annapolis.” They chorused.

AJ was suspicious “Do you know each other?”

They exchanged glances.  “Yes.” Mac confessed. “We do.”

“Cool!” Matt said.  “Tell us.”

Horror flashed over both faces for a split second.  “No.” Mac said.

“Well maybe one day but not today.” Harm tempered. He stood. “Mac it was great seeing you. Come along young lady.” He tugged on his daughter.

“Same here.” Mac said as she stood as well.

“May I call you?” he asked.  “Or should I say permission to come aboard?”

“In that case permission granted.” She chuckled.

RABB’S RESIDENCE

Mac walked into her husband’s study.  “Hey.”

“Hey.” Harm opened his arms and allowed her to sit in his lap.  “AJ called while you were out.  They had a boy.”

“That’s my girl!” Harm grinned.

“Somewhere in there my son played a part you know.”

He kissed her.  “Make no mistake. I thank our kids every day for this **Brady Bunch** family of ours.”

“Isn’t it just such a shame that it took our kids to bring us together?”

“Shame.” He agreed.

THE END.
