OCTOBER 5, 2304 LOCAL

RABB RESIDENCE

ON THE INSIDE

Quite subtly Muscles began to get tight over Abdomen, "What are you doing?" Abdomen asked.

"What do you think?" Muscles replied and continued on the mission. Lower Back began to ache as Muscles sustained the tightening process.

Uterus warmed up and menstrual-like cramping began to emanate through the system.

Placenta ruptured, "Sorry." She said.

Legs were incredulous "You did it AGAIN! You wet me!"

"I said I was sorry" Placenta said "...but what do you expect? You're in the way!"

Legs just glared at Placenta. "I'll show you who's in the way." She muttered.

"Panic/panic panic/panic panic/panic" Adrenaline was on the move. "This is not a drill ...panic/panic panic/panic"

"If memory serves Muscles will intensify that warning up for the long haul." Legs said.

"Hence the rapid move of Adrenaline. The system has to be braced." Placenta explained.

2305 LOCAL

ON THE INSIDE

Adrenaline arrived "Brain! Brain! Wake up! Mac's water's broke!"

Brain awoke with a start. "And for that you wake me?"

Adrenaline paused.

"Labour pains won't start in a hur... The whole body convulsed "What the..." This could NOT be happening. Brain began barking orders. "Activate all protocols and get all heads of departments here ASAP!"

"Panic/panic panic/panic panic/panic" Adrenaline was on the move.

2304 LOCAL

ON THE OUTSIDE

Mac was reading in an effort to take her mind of the fact that she was beginning to feel mild pain and discomfort, but mostly to forget that she was so huge and ungainly. It was late she knew but she just had to finish this chapter before turning in.

She felt the tell tale cramping and discomfort, then she heard a faint pop then wetness. Her water had broken.

She knew instantly her water had burst. She reached over to Harm. "Harm"

"Hmmm"

"Harm wake up honey. My water just broke."

That got his attention.

"OK. Stay here and I'll go round up the kids."

She nodded. The days of Harmon Rabb panicking in the face of childbirth were definitely over.

2334 LOCAL

ON THE INSIDE

"We need to move!" Womb stated. "It is not my desire to heave 8 pounds of baby and 4 pounds of placenta each with no Doctor in sight. But I tell you solemnly if pushed into a corner I will do it! I will get rid of this entire load whether there's someone there to catch it or not! So people MOVE OUT!"

Muscles shuddered. Brain could not understand this it was so soon!

Blood arrived panting. "Oxygen we need oxygen! We are the ones to carry oxygen to the tissues and there is a shortage."

"Breathe Lungs Breathe!" Brain instructed.

Lungs growled ...I cannot breath during a contraction. The concentration cuts me off... but as soon as it is over I heave in overtime. Sorry but that's the best I can offer."

Blood's crimson color had returned. "I know Lungs but the experience is daunting."

The body moved. "We're moving." Nerves said.

"I'M MOVING." Legs corrected. "If we are to get Womb to the hospital in time to have a successful birth we had better start to move in that direction."

"EASY!" Back shouted causing all in the Command Post to jump. "Labour action is not confined to Womb and Muscles you know I'm getting a pounding here. Move with some consideration please?"

"Here let me help." Hands moved to brace the Lower Back.

"Thanks" Back sighed. Then groaned when the full weight of the Twin fetuses came to bear.

Feet shuffled along and with the help of Harm they got into the SUV.

Muscles trembled.

"Control Muscles try to keep the contractions apart. I do not indent to lose these babies because we had to stop in some dark ally to give birth." Brain warned. The loss of the first baby they ever carried still haunted them and always would.

"I'll try." They promised.

"WE'LL TRY" Pelvis emphasized the "we"

ON THE OUTSIDE

Harm never could recall how he did it, but he managed to get a four year old, a two year old and a pregnant woman in labour into the SUV and he didn't even forget the layette. Practice made perfect.

OCTOBER 6, 0025 LOCAL

ON THE OUTSIDE

It was amazing the time that it took to the hospital in the dead of night compared to the time the same route took during the day.

Mac was taken to the delivery room and the kids to the childcare section.

ON THE INSIDE

"OK Muscles you did good. We made it to the hospital." Brain spoke in soothing tones to the uptight organ. "You can relax your grip and follow Standing Operational Procedures. We are all here now and we know what to do. Just indicate when you are ready."

Muscles nodded and racked the system with a labour contraction. "And we have to do this twice." Muscles wanted to cry. So did Brain.

She began to do what se did best ... take control. "OK people baby number one should be in position by now and just waiting for its betters to tell it when to go.

"Eh not quite yet." Womb said.

"Hello! And why not." Brain wanted answers.

"Number one was moving into breach and we had to intercept and correct. We will have him as we want him in a few moments."

"Good good." She said.

ON THE INSIDE

"Alright people number one baby is ready for delivery all systems are go!"

Womb protected baby two.

Muscles contracted.

Pelvis expanded.

Lungs took a deep breath and

The whole body pushed, pressed, heaved. That was phase one.

They paused to recuperated, recharged and repeated the process until finally they got baby one out.

The whole body was sweating. "We're getting too old for this." Sweat glands panted.

ON THE INSIDE

"Brace yourself people!" Pelvis called out.

"Here we go with number two." Brain relayed. And in a reply of twelve minutes before baby number two was delivered.

"That is it. God may we never do that again." Brain prayed.

"OH come quick they're bring the babies for her to see!" Eyes flashed.

They all crowded round to see.

Can we cook or can we cook." Brain swelled with pride.
