RABB RESIDENCE
It had been a beautiful day and as the afternoon slowly slid
into evening Mac lay in the hammock and thanked God for her life.
How she got into the hammock was an achievement in itself
for at nine months pregnant she was lucky to get out of bed with any
dignity. She lay in the hammock and was
at ease. It was balmy and she was content. Harm lay in a picnic towel not too far off
and played with David their two-year-old son.
He was tickling the toddler who was squealing in unadulterated delight.
"Harm" she called.
"Hey" He replied.
"We're having a baby." She informed him.
"Yeah" He grinned. "Maybe a sister for
David."
He hadn't understood she rephrased. "Harm we're having
a baby NOW!"
He paused, locked eyes with her then sprang up.
"NOW!"
She nodded.
Getting out of the hammock was as labour intensive as it had
been getting in. David thought the game was grand. She finally got out and Harm maneuvered all three of them first
to the house then to the SUV.

Mac groaned as a contraction hit.
"Breathe honey breathe." What else could he say?
"Harm... this not the way to the Hospital." Mac
ground out.
"Mac its 1720 on a Friday, you'll give birth in the
Beltway before we get to the hospital, we're going to St Agnes
Polyclinic."
She nodded.
"Weeee!" David hadn't had this much fun in his
entire life.

Isn't
she lovely
Isn't
she wonderful
Isn't
she precious
Less
than one minute old
I never
thought through love we'd be
Making
one as lovely as she
But
isn't she lovely made from love

Mac was taken to the delivery room, David to the daycare
with Harm close behind. The more
questions they asked the more irritated he became. He needed to focus on Mac.
"Mr. Rabb..." The senior nurse admonished,
"The sooner you answer my questions the sooner I can leave you to more
important things."
"Sorry" He apologized, focused and replied to all
questions.

Isn't

Truly

Boy, I'm

We have

I can't

But

ST AGNES POLYCLINIC - DELIVERY ROOM
He was finally finished with the nurse and focused on Mac in
time to hear her say to the nurse who was checking her dilation "Look again and don't come up till I
hear double digits mister!" He smiled. Those familiar words had been aimed
at him once many years ago, during a terrorist attack no less.
She caught his grin "You think it's funny?"
The smile slid off his face. "No ma'am" he moved
to her side as another contraction commenced. She grabbed his hand and he fell
to his knees. That was some grip! He
struggled to his feet.
"Breathe Mac breath. Remember our classes." He
coaxed.
She released her grip and he massaged the weakened limb to encourage
the blood to circulate. Finally he
reached into her layette, pulled out his dog tags and slipped them on. With the advent of the next contraction Harm
had her to focus on the dog tags and she had a few choice words for him. The
air sizzled and nurses blushed and that was at the English words there were a
myriad of non-English phrases in there too. Harm grinned. "That's my girl.
Come on focus!"
Mac was not known for long bouts of labour and she soon gave
birth to a health baby girl.
"Hey Cathy." Harm cooed to his daughter, as she
lay safe in her mother's arms. They had decided on Catherine Sarah if it was a
girl. "Welcome" He whispered,
then leaned over and kissed Mac gently on the lips. "I'm going to get
David."
"Hurry back." She said.
Within five minutes he was back. "Here's your sister, son." He introduced. "You as
big brother must protect her."
David was fascinated by the bundle, "Sis?" he
reached out to touch Catherine Sarah Rabb.
"Yes." Mac chuckled.
