JAG HQ - MAC'S OFFICE
"Ma'am" Tiner knocked and opened the door to Mac's call of "Enter."
"Special delivery ma'am." Tiner opened the door wider to reveal a DHL deliveryman.
She signed the package and set to opening it. As she laid eyes on the envelope she recognized the handwriting. She began to sweat. Instinctively she passed her hand first over her forehead, then her upper lip. Why was Mic Brumby writing to her? She warred with herself: to read or not to read.
Finally curiosity got the better of her she read...
Dear Mac
I hope after the way we parted that you don't instinctively chuck this letter. I want you to know that despite my inexcusable behavior for which I most humbly apologize I was crushed at our parting.
[FLASHBACK]
She automatically slapped him. He slapped back and grabbed her. He began to move to the bedroom.
Mac tried to fight but Mic was a man and a man who pumped iron at that. "Mic what are you doing!"
"You are mine." He ground out.
Her mind was in over drive. This brute she had contemplated marrying was about to rape her. His hold was such that she could not break it. She had to talk and talk fast. "That gives you the right to
rape me? That is what you Aussies call love?"
[END OF FLASHBACK]
We at RAN have been placed on alert and I have no one to write to. So I write to you.
My ship is all rigged and waiting in the harbor and tomorrow we get deployed to the Indian Ocean. That is so far from my home. I have been assigned as the XO.
And I shall be aboard that ship tomorrow ...Though my heart is full of tears at this farewell ...I've heard there's a wicked war a-blazing ... as the US bombs Afghanistan ... And the taste of war I know so very well Even now I see the foreign flag a-raising ... Their guns on fire as we sail into hell ... I have no fear of death, it brings no sorrow ... But how bitter will be this last farewell ... Though death and darkness gather all about me ... And my ship be torn apart upon the seas
I shall always remember our good times ... And the heaving waves that brought me once to thee.
[FLASHBACK]
He placed his hands gently on her waist and looked into her eyes. "I'm in love with you, Sarah," he said. "Shhh ..." he placed his hand lightly over her mouth to keep her from interrupting. "For once in your life just listen. I've loved you since the moment I first laid eyes on you. I've never acted so foolishly or ached so hard in my heart in all my life."
[END OF FLASHBACK]
And should I return home safe again to Oz I shall watch our Ferry sail across the Sydney Harbor and lament my loss.
For you are beautiful, I have loved you dearly ... More dearly than the spoken word can tell ... For you are beautiful, I have loved you dearly ... More dearly than the spoken word can tell.
Mac folded the letter as a tear ran down her cheek.
