PRONTO"S ITALIAN RESTURANT
Bud tapped his fork on his glass for the attention of the
small group of friends and family that had gathered for the momentous
occasion. "Well folks here we
are." He turned to Harm. "Harm, Mac I will start by saying God
Bless - you have achieved a milestone many only dream of. Having said that I feel I must also tell you
that there were times I fear for the two of you."
"Amen!" Harriett endorsed.
"Well all I can say on that for now is that it took you
long enough to get my name and not title out!" Harm teased.
"How long did it take six! seven years! My God how long
does a person need?" Webb piped in.
"Did you know that the Office had a bet running on the two of
you?"
"I knew." Mac said.
"You did?" Harm was surprised. "I didn't
know."
"Figures Navy." Mac replied.
"And there she was trying to have us believe she and
Harm were only 'friends" Carolyn sneered.
"You will not let that die will you." Mac grinned.
"What?" Harm was instantly curios.
"Oh this is precious after all this time he doesn't
know?" Carolyn giggled.
"Tell him." Mac instructed. "Tell them
all."
"You sure."
"Oh come on Carolyn!" Harm begged.
"Ok there we were at the table. Jordan..."
"Jordan?" Harm started.
"Do you want to hear or not?" Carolyn snapped.
"OK OK go ahead." He surrendered.
"Jordan." She picked up; I think Lauren was there
Mac and I. The conversation went
something like this:
[FLASHBACK]
Carolyn: "So, Jordan, what's he like?"
Jordan:
"Harm? He's a nice guy, intelligent, funny, oh and a good cook."
Carolyn: "No, what's he like, you know?"
Jordan: "Oh,
what would you say?" (Looks at Mac)
Mac:
"Don't look at me we never... " (stammers)
Carolyn: "Come on!
Don't give us that all that time you've been together Japan, Russia, the
desert."
Mac: "No
it's the truth, you believe me don't you Jordan?"
Jordan: "Of
course, dear!"
[END OF FLASHBACK]
Mac nodded. "That sounds right."
"That is one hell of a conversation... you women are
dangerous. But when all is said and
done I figure I got my money's worth." Harm said.
[FLASHBACK]
Mic: "Four thousand."
Harm: "Four thousand and one."
Mic was agitated "Damn!" and he stormed out of
the room.
BANG! Down went the gavel causing every one in the room
to jump. "SOLD! To the gentleman at the second table. Ladies and Gentlemen at a record bid of four
thousand and one dollars for Colonel Sarah MacKenzie Marine Officer JAG
Corps!"
[END OF FLASHBACK]
"Sir a hundred years from now folks wills till talk
about that one." Victor marveled.
"I never had a team the likes of you and for that I
thank God every day." AJ Chedwiggen said.
"The last time I was here with the two of you Mac nearly died.
Remember?"
==============================
I sit
and wait
Does and
angel contemplate my fate
And do
they know
The
places where we go
When
we're grey and old
'cos
I've been told
That
salvation lets their wings unfold
So when
I'm lying in my bed
Thoughts
running through my head
And I
feel that love is dead
==============================
[FLASHBACK]
For the first time that evening Mac took a drink of
water. She reacted instantly. With the first convulsion the glass
fell. A series followed and she fell to
the floor. The entire restaurant paused
to focus on the woman on the floor.
"Harm! What the hell just happened here!?" AJ wanted answers and fast.
"Allergic reaction. Mac is allergic to walnut
oil. It occurs so rarely that I
sometimes forget that she has it."
[END OF FLASHBACK]
"What became of that Son of Satan; Clarke Palmer
anyway."
"He died sir." Victor Galindez stated flatly.
"You should have been here the time before that."
Mac said.
[FLASHBACK]
"No body move!" a voice stated.
Too late the suddenness of the gunfire had had the entire establishment
dive for cover where ever it was to be found.
Harm could not believe it. They
were magnets for this sort of thing.
The ONE NIGHT they get all dolled up and the restaurant gets held up? "Can
you see them?"
"Them? What them.
It's a two by four man up there with a semi automatic. The damn weapon looks bigger than
him." Mac sounded annoyed.
[END OF FLASHBACK]
"That's the night he ..." she crooked a thumb at
Harm "... proposed under gun fire. My hero."
"Those are the conditions you got engaged under?"
Their daughter Catherine asked.
He grinned. "I was determined to do the right thing.
We'd played round too much." He breathed in deeply.
Mac looked at her husband of twenty-five years and knew was
about to launch into some sort of speech.
Hey that's what anniversaries are for.
He launched "Folks I'm going to get serious here. Even before I knew it ... everyone else knew that Mac and I were meant to be. It took a succession of near misses to set me straight..."
"One would be enough for most men." Webb grumbled.
"Not for me I had to nearly die getting to a wedding I
dreaded, I had to see the woman I loved almost marry my nemesis but the final
straw was almost dying on one of your damn fool missions. There I was facing death. I knew I was going to die... I just knew it
...
[FLASHBACK]
Now that he was forced to look in the mirror he saw what
all men feared... what he feared. He had found his mate and lost her by his own
clumsiness. They were in the military
SO WHAT!!
He had been born to love one woman and that was Mac. The reason he breathed was Mac. Maybe the reason he still breathed was Mac.
The door opened.
It was time.
Harm was ready to die, he may not have accomplished all
that he wanted to do in this life but he had found his way to the other half of
his soul. He was content.
His heart pumped out a message "From my heart to
yours Mac ... I love you."
[END OF FLASHBACK]
==============================
I'm
loving angels instead
And
through it all she offers me protection
A lot of
love and affection
Whether
I'm right or wrong
And down
the waterfall
Wherever
it may take me
I know
that life won't break me
When I
come to call she won't forsake me
I'm
loving angels instead
==============================
"The reason I breathed was Mac. Maybe the reason I still breath is this
Marine." Harm was bearing all.
"I'm here to testify that over the years we have been married I
have tested the metal of this woman. We
have argued and made up ... made children.
We have got to the brink of divorce and come back and thought it all I
have loved this woman and she me. I am content."
He turned to face Mac. "We have had some amazing
adventures and in most if not all cases her language skills have saved my
six. Mac: Te amo, Je t'aime, Ich liebe
Sie. And for you mono linguists that means I love you." He sat. He had declared his heart. It had taken him twenty-five years but he
had finally done it.
The table was silent. Even Webb had to respect what he had
just heard.
Mac leaned over and whispered to only him. "Well said
my love well said. Thank you."
==============================
When I'm
feeling weak
I look
above
And I
know I'll always be blessed with love
And as
the feeling grows
She
breathes flesh to my bones
And when
love is dead
I'm
loving angels instead
