THE INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL AUDITORIUM

The four children of Harm and Sarah Rabb all attended The International School.  As a result; five of the six Rabbs were multi lingual. This year as with every Christmas the School affectionately called TIS was having the annual Christmas Pageant.

The Rabb brood was back stage and restless David – 14, Catherine – 12, James and Elliott – 10 had decided to sing a song in English so that their father could understand.

“Are they seated?” David whispered as Catherine peeped out.  She nodded.

Elliott took a deep breath “I’m glad we’re third on the list.”

“Nervous little brother?” David sympathized.  Both twins nodded.

“Don’t worry we’ll all be together out there and we’ll be fine. OK?” Cathy encouraged. The twins nodded again.

Mac and Harm were in position among the other parents.  This had become a tradition with them and neither herself or Harm had ever missed a performance by their kids.

“They have been practicing for weeks. Every time I happen by they suddenly stop.”  Harm complained.

She chuckled “The great conspiracy.”

“Oh look their next.” Harm spotted his children stepping on to the stage.

The music began; Harm recognized the song Do You Hear What I Hear?  The arrangement was in the genre of pop/soul. The polite clapping that welcomed the four changed to match the beat.

Catherine Rabb stepped forward and sang, with her brothers providing back up.  This was no stand in position and sing a song performance.  The twelve year old moved up and down the stage and sang her heat out.

Said the night wind to the little lamb,
"Do you see what I see?
Way up in the sky, little lamb,
Do you see what I see?
A star, a star, dancing in the night
With a tail as big as a kite,
With a tail as big as a kite."

She began to move back as David moved forward to take her place. They harmonized on the last phrase, and then he too began to work the stage.

Said the little lamb to the shepherd boy,
"Do you hear what I hear?
Ringing through the sky, shepherd boy,
Do you hear what I hear?
A song, a song high above the trees
With a voice as big as the sea,
With a voice as big as the sea."

The twins joined their brother where they executed a few choreographed steps then took over the song. With James controlling one end of the stage and Elliott the other.

Said the shepherd boy to the mighty king,
"Do you know what I know?
In your palace warm, mighty king,
Do you know what I know?
A Child, a Child shivers in the cold--
Let us bring him silver and gold,
Let us bring him silver and gold."

The hard work had paid off.  The four regrouped for the final verse.  The steps were in sync and the harmony was perfect.

Said the king to the people everywhere,
"Listen to what I say!
Pray for peace, people, everywhere,
Listen to what I say!
The Child, the Child sleeping in the night
He will bring us goodness and light,
He will bring us goodness and light."

The four received a standing ovation for the performance.

“Now where do you supposed they learned stage work like that?” Harm winked.

Mac blushed.  Her forays into performing for the Toy for Tot Charity would follow her to her grave.
