Story Written November 26, 2001

The logs on the fire
Fill me with desire
To see you and to say
That I wish you Merry Christmas
Happy New Year too
I've just one wish
On this Christmas Eve
I wish I were with you
I wish I were with you
Merry Christmas, darling

JAG HQ, MAC’S OFFICE

“Harm your client’s finger prints were found on his wife’s corpse.” Mac replied.

“That is shaky evidence and you know it.”  Harm countered.

She took a deep breath. They were going round in circles over this murder case. She tried again, “The process is new granted, but an accepted method of lifting latent prints.”  He still looked skeptical. “Look it’s Christmas Eve, Captain Evers is not going anywhere even if we were to agree.  So let’s resume after the season on our first day back.”

“Ok” he agreed. “So what you up to this evening.” He sat opposite her, he’d been pacing during the whole debate.

“The usual: Office party, then home.”

“You on duty?” he asked.

“Not this year you?”

“The Wall, then a trip home.”

“Say hi to your mom.” She leaned forward “I’ll miss you.”

“You will?”

“Indeed.”

Harriett knocked on the door.  “Ma’am as per your request, I’m letting you know that the mistletoe is going up.”

“Thanks Harriett.” She caught Harm’s grin. “What?”

“Dodging mistletoe this year?” He teased.

“That and you flyboy.”

”Me?”

“Don’t give me that.” She admonished, “Harriett is itching to catch us. If we are caught under mistletoe; our relationship which has been the height of discretion will be discrete no more.”

“True. It’s hard enough working with you. I kiss you out there and I will not be responsible for my subsequent action.”

She chuckled at that.

MAC’S APARTMENT

Surrounded by her comfort food Mac had curled up on the sofa to watch a Christmas movie marathon on TV…

Two hours later the ringing of the phone woke her.  She glanced at the television and had no idea what was playing. The TV had watched her more than she had been watching it.  The answering machine kicked in. “Hey beautiful.”   Harm’s voice came through. She grabbed the receiver.

“I’m here. Where are you?”

“On my way home. Just called to ask if you got my gift.” He said.

“What gift.”

“It’s not there yet?” He sounded irritated.  “I paid extra for that delivery.”

There was a knock at her door.

“Harm hold on there is someone at my door.”

“Mac be careful it’s late and there are crazies out there.”

“Harm… I’m a Marine I can take care of myself it’s ok.”  She walked to the door with the cordless glued to her ear. She peeped through the hole, grabbed the knob and swung the door open.  There stood Harm, with his cell still at his ear, a grin on his face and a red ribbon tied round his neck.

“Hey beautiful.” He repeated as he entered the apartment. She shook her head and chuckled.  “Do you like your gift?” He twirled.

“I haven’t unwrapped it yet.” She pointed out.

“Oh” he jumped forward “My fault, by all means unwrap.”

She reached and tugged at the ribbon, which fell off easily. He grabbed her and swung her up.  “Where did you get that ridiculous ribbon.” She laughed. It was pure joy to be with him.

“I forget.” He put her down.

“I thought you said you were on your way home, when you called.”

“Home is where the heart is and since you have mine where else would I be? I called mom and explained that we’d be over for New Year’s”

“We?”

“You really thought I’d spend our first Christmas with my mother and not you?”

“I know how you feel about family.” She explained.

“AS I said since you have my heart where else would I be?”

“Where you are supposed to be come here. I’m not finished unwrapping my gift.” She commanded.

“Yeees ma’am.” He grinned.

THE END.
