SAINT LUCIA

Mac stepped of the AA Eagle flight and hit a wall of heat.  She turned to Harm "I'd forgotten how hot the islands could be."

"Sure beats DC" he replied.

As they approached the little terminal she began reading the line up for the Saint Lucia Jazz Festival it confirmed all that she had read to date. She pointed to the welcome prominent board.  "Harm" she warned "You will get no sleep for the next ten days."

"Who came to sleep I came to rock and roll."

"Jazz Harm Jazz not rock."

"What ever."

IMMIGRATION, CUSTOMS AND EXCISE

As they stepped into the air-conditioned building; music flooded the official spaces.  Harm poked Mac and joked "Dorothy we are no longer in Kansas."

They say Carnival is bad

Carnival is mad

Carnival is sinful

Jumping in a band man on top woman

Is for vulgar people

She grinned and began to tap her toes to the beat.  "Yeah isn't this great!"

TAXI STAND

Harm and Mac moved to the official taxi stand and gave the driver the name of the hotel.  They got into the taxi and the song hit them.

I said wey de wey de wey de

De pocket empty empty empty

Cause all de money money money

In de hairy bank

All de money gone in de hairy bank

All de money stay in de hairy bank

"Hell of a song." Harm observed.

"Yeah" Charles the driver replied.  "This song has been rocking the place.  I hear the singer will be coming for the official opening of the Jazz Festival"

"That's tomorrow night right?" Mac asked.

"Yeah at the Mindoo Phillip Park.  It will be righteous!" He enthused "Be there or be square."

"You heard the man." Mac poked Harm.

FRONT DESK

As Harm checked them into the hotel, Mac sipped on the welcome complimentary drink and absorbed the latest tune.  She was ecstatic. She fully expected this to be a hectic ten days.  She focused on the song.

I going down by Footsteps there have nuff shoes dere

You stand up by a vender drinking nuff booze dere

I bonch up with Funatix playing nuff mass dere

You dere wining on a booshewah fighting nuff class dere

Eh bien I dere you dere I see you everywhere shaking up dat bumper

Dis year I want my share.

I dere you dere I see you everywhere shaking up dat bumper

Dis year I want my share.

She turned to the young man attending to them and asked.  "We want to make arrangements to attending the launching of the Jazz Festival.  Can you assist?"

"Of course ma'am.  I will have the details all ready for you. When you come down for dinner tonight come here and ask for me ... James and I'll have all the details including tickets."

"Thank you James." Mac positively glowed.

RABB'S ROOM

Mac flopped down on the large bed.  "Harm I am here a couple of hours and I am already having the time of my life!" She leaped up and kissed him "Thank you."

"You're welcome." He said as she moved from him to the radio on the nightstand.  She switched it on.  The DJ's voice filled the room.

"Well now for a change of pace. As you know the Saint Lucia the Tourist Board will be launching the Jazz Festival tomorrow night at the Mindoo Phillip Park.  It's promising to be one hell of a show folks. Get your tickets.  Are there tickets left? You may have to sit outside to enjoy.  Well all cued up is one of the artists scheduled to perform. I'm told the ladies adore this one. So for the ladies ...

Oh Kim

Who do hell is Kim!

What foolishness you talking!

You better check yourself and go and check your health

Better call out for a ride to pick up your things outside

So long my friend

It's adios

And goodbye

"Ha I love it!" Mac was like a kid in a candy store. "She repeated the chorus"

"I can see why.  Caribbean music is sure colorful."  Harm said.

"Isn't it just?  I must return with a couple of CDs."

JAZZ FESTIVAL LAUNCHING

As promised James had arranged all for them and they were on their way to start day one of a marathon ten days. Mac ordered the driver to find her non-American music.

"Mac the man is not in the Marines." Harm admonished.

She shrugged at him then focused on the latest song on the air.

Everywhere you pass boys calling girls in town - Sweet Eye

An if you doh answer they give you movee-lang Sweet Eye

All kind of dirty talk

Troubling you while you walk

And calling you Sweet Sweet Eye

Ayye ayye ayye

MINDOO PHILLIP PARK

JAZZ FESTIVAL LAUNCHING

The venue was packed with wall-to-wall persons.  It seemed that every nationality on the planet had sent a representative some seemed to have send delegations.

Harm didn't know how she did it but she had managed to grasp at least the chorus of the majority of the songs belted out.  He watched her as she dealt with the latest.

Saint Lucia

Dominica

St Vincent

Grenada

Trinidad and Tobago

On stage we sending a message

On stage portraying an outrage

On stage contract our standard

On stage jump all who offended

Jump up high jump up low waive your manifesto

If things ruff in the ghetto waive your manifesto

If your phone bill high

WASCO run you dry let them know waive your manifesto

Waive it high high high high high high higher

Waive it high high high high high high higher

Waive it high high high high high high higher

Waive it high high high high high high higher

Waive your manifesto

Like every other person Mac was waving a "rag" where she had got it? And more to the point when?  Harm had not a clue.  The entertainment had been frenetic and non-stop and Mac had been enthralled from the first beat.

The beat slowed and she leaned against her husband.  Harm could feel her sway in tune with the song and didn't know which was worse to have her jigging up and down in front of him or to feel her gyrating against him.  Of course she knew this one after the first chorus was sung.

So I didn't tell to go roam the streets

But that what happens when the rubber-dubbing

Gets sweet

You down der whirling and there rubber-dubbing

You waist line skunking

And the daylight jamming

SO!

How does it feel to have been on the ballroom floor?

So do you feel like you could rock some more?

For a strictly rubber-dub for sure

And you dub and you wine JAH Love!

Hear now Hear now Hear now
