GEORGETOWN UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL
MAC'S ROOM
Mac sat on the hospital bed and drummed her fingers on the
tabletop. Harm would be late for his
funeral! She had been waiting eleven minutes
fifty-one seconds and counting. Where
could he BE!
The door suddenly swung open. Her look said it all so she vocalized nothing.
"Sorry hon no excuse, all set? Of course you are stupid
question."
"I got checked out twelve minutes twenty five seconds
ago." As she made a move to head for the door a nurse appeared.
"Now Colonel you know the drill. We wheel you out."
Mac was about to object but had met her match. "Ah! I will have none of it! Appendicitis is not a thing to play with and
Lt Colonel or no you are riding out of here.
SIT!"
"Yes ma'am" Mac conceded.
"Nurse Wilson.
Will you come live with me?" Harm asked innocently "You are
the only one aside from her CO who can get her to comply with orders."
"That so?!" The Nurse grinned as the headed for
the exit.
"Yes ma'am and as a helpless male I need all the
assistance I can get."
Mac refused to take part in that conversation.
"Here we are." Nurse Wilson announced as they
arrived at the SUV. "Take care of
yourself Colonel and only come back for a visit."
"Thank you for everything." Mac meant what she
said.
"You my dear are very welcome." The Nurse replied.
After securing Mac, Harm climbed into the seat next to her.
"Ready to go home Mrs. Rabb?"
She grinned at him "Soon."
"Soon?"
She crooked a finger at him. He leaned towards her. She kissed him. "Now I'm ready Mr. Rabb."

SOMEWHERE OVER THE RAINBOW
Mac had fallen asleep.
She awoke and was initially confused. It was peaceful. Too peaceful there was rustling of the
leaves on the trees and the touch of the breeze. She felt content with a distinct sense that there was a place
of happiness for her. Then she focused and snapped out of
the drowsiness.
Then she figured out the source of the confusion the SUV had
stopped. She adjusted herself slowly in
the seat. Why had they stopped? Where
the hell were they and more importantly where was Harm?
She heard voices and searched the area. Parked behind them was a car. A little car looked like a Nissan
March. Was that Harm in the car? Who could tell at that distance? Whether it was or not she needed more Intel.
Mac eased herself out of the SUV and headed for the Nissan
each step jarring her. She had to
resist the instinct to run when the blood-curdling scream of a female hit her
followed by bellow of a male. THIS is
why she traveled armed ... but for today.
She got to the car and found a woman on the back seat with
Harm squatting at her feet.
"Harm?" Mac asked.
"Mac! This is Maggie she's in labour. I called the
ambulance but I don't think that they will reach in time!"
Mac took a deep breath and said "Harm there is noting
that you or I can do. This is a process
of nature. All we can do is be there
for her. I'm going back to the SUV to get something out of my case to wrap the
baby in."
She turned and navigated the distance to the vehicle and
back very careful not to aggravate her stitches. As she carried the towel back with her she could hear the woman
react to the next contraction and smiled at Harm's anguished cry as Maggie
nearly crushed his hand in the process.
She thought: Not even a trip home from the hospital can proceed
uneventful. Well; married life should
be most interesting.
She returned to the car in time to see the baby's head begin
to emerge. "Harm your army
knife." She instructed.
He instinctively obeyed.
"Push Maggie." He encouraged. "Push!"
"I can't!" She wailed.
Mac leaned in "Yes you can. You need to do this for your baby. Push!"
Maggie focused and heaved.
"Good girl." Harm said.
The faint sound of a siren broke into the activity.
"Maggie I hear the ambulance. I'm going to direct it.
OK?" Mac informed the woman.
At Maggie's nod of understanding Mac said to Harm. "Here's the
knife to cut the cord and the towel to wrap the
baby." All Harm
could do was nod.
Mac moved with speed of a lame tortoise but positioned
herself not too far from Harm and flagged down the ambulance. By that time Maggie had given birth to a
baby girl.

Something
in the wind has learned my name
And it's
telling me that things are not the same.
In the
leaves on the trees
There's
a place and sense of happiness for me
There is
only one wish on my mind
When
this day is through I hope that I will find
That
tomorrow will be just the same for you and me
All I
need will be mine if you are here

SOMEWHERE OVER THE RAINBOW
As the ambulance wailed and left them Mac turned to her
husband ... where to start? She dived
in. "Harm where are we? Why are we
here? And I'm not even asking how we
managed to get involved in birthing a baby by the side of the road."
"I know the magnet theory at work." He confessed.
Mac said.
"There is only one wish I have for you and I and that when this day
is through I hope that I will find that tomorrow will not be just the same for
you and me, for in reality that works out as the same as adventure."
"I'm glad you didn't say trouble." Harm supposed.
"That too."
"The truth of the matter is I was talking a leisurely
ride home with my wife ... you honour." He began she playfully hit
him. "It was such a beautiful day
and your honour MY WIFE IS BEAUTIFUL.
So I thought it don't get better than this. Beautiful day, beautiful woman hey all the ingredients for
feeling on top of the world."
"Harm." She warned.
"Your honour." He ignored her and started the
engine. "There she was ... a woman
in distress and as an Officer and a Gentlemen I thought I must help. I must admit that the thought occurred to me
what if it was my wife by the roadside would someone
help? So to cut a long story short I am
guilty your honour of loving my wife and helping a fellow human. I stand ready
for sentencing."
"You are full of it you know that?"
"Love?"
"That too." She confirmed, "Is it far to
home?"
"Actually here we are." He swung into the drive.
"So this is Harm's Haunted House."
"Hey don't knock it till you've met the folks." He
said.
"You cannot be serious."
"I assure you I am.
Remember our magnet theory where ever you and I are together so is
trouble. Now come here."
"Where." She asked "Hey!" Harm suddenly picked her up and stepped
across the threshold.
"You didn't think on your first day here as Mrs. Rabb
you were going to walk across did you?"
She slipped her arms around his neck. "You realize if that theory holds ...
this house will be jumping."
"Don't know about the house but as soon as you heal I
plan to get this house jumping." If she missed his point he bent his head
and kissed her.
She thought:
Ahh bliss! Now
Looking down on creation
And the only explanation I can
find
Is the love that I've found
Ever since you've been around
You're love's put me at the top
of the world.
He gently put her down.
"There is good news and bad news."
She scanned the room, "So I see. You did your best sweetie but this place
really needs a woman's touch."
"You may be right on that score but that is not what I
had in mind." He replied.
"Oh?"
"I wasn't able to get my holidays to coincide with your
sick leave." He announced.
"I assume that that is the bad news. So what is the good news?"
"I get two weeks off but my first week off is your last
week."
"Some where in there is not so good news." She
observed.
"So in effect you have seven weeks on your hands. I warn you from now Lt. Colonel DO NOT go
rearranging this place in your condition!" He warned.
"I am going to go stir crazy here."
"Well the US Tennis Open is on that should take care of
at least two weeks. No?"
"I suppose, but to become a couch potato is not my style."
She lamented.
"It will have to be but only for a while. You can scan
the ads for ideas for our eventual honeymoon."
"I suppose." She conceded slowly "Help me to
the bedroom please? It has been a long day and I think I need a
rest." She began humming Hotel
California as Harm led the way.
THE END.
