Mac had been in bed since 2230 and had yet to fall asleep.
She just lay in the bed that now felt massive with only her in it. The kids had
been asleep for hours ... she envied them.
The sleep of the innocent.
It had been two weeks since the nightmare had begun. Only thing is that it was not a dream it was
real. Harm had gotten the seven-year itch
and he had scratched it with a vengeance.
Now here she was at eleven twenty one and fifteen seconds
and she could not sleep.
As Chief of Staff at JAG she had a hectic schedule. As a mother of a five-year and three-year
old she was run off her feet. Mac was
tired. Too tired to sleep. She closed her eyes and there was the scene unfolding
in slow motion and in Technicolor with surround sound.
She could tell it was going to be another long night of
watching the clock mark time.
{Maybe I should just call Harm and ... and what?} She
thought. {Ask for a divorce? Ask for a
reconciliation? Ask for a WHAT!?}

Last night I didn't get to sleep
at all no no
I lay awake and watched until
the morning light
Watched away the darkness of the
lonely night (lonely night)
Oh and last night I got to
thinking may be I I I
Should call you up and just
forget my foolish pride
And last night I didn't get to
sleep at all

Her five year old suddenly appeared at the foot of her
bed. "Mum?" He said.
She was at his side instantly. "What's wrong
David?"
"Mum I'm thirsty."
She sighed with relief.
"Come along." They trotted to the kitchen. He had his drink
and Mac tucked him back into his bed.
There was no need to go back to bed she wasn't sleeping
anyway. Maybe a sleeping pill would do
the trick? Anything to get her through the
night.
{Where did I go wrong for us to end up like this?} Her
active mind was going into overdrive.
{It's not my fault, but Lord this pain is heartache is killing me and I
need a rest.}
She headed for the bathroom: Yeah a sleeping pill would do
the trick. Of course it was just a
waste of time, she couldn't close her eyes with Harm on her mind.

I know it's not my fault I did
my best
God knows this heart of mine
could use a rest
But more and more I find the
dreams I left behind
Are somehow too real to replace

Oh last night I didn't get to
sleep at all no no
The sleeping pill I took was
just a waste of time
I couldn't close my eyes cause
you were on my mind

Mac awoke in a cold sweat her face had morphed into Renee's
... the ultimate nightmare. Would this
NEVER end?
She lay back on the bed.
Another night of barely getting to sleep at all. She checked her internal clock: 0457 ... may
as well get up and start a new day.
