"So, you going to divorce her for this floozy?" Trish Rabb Burnette demanded.

He could only look at his mother. She had never taken the woman's side against him, until now. If he ever needed evidence that Mac was family he had it. A hell of a way to gather evidence but there you go such is life.

"I will be damned if I will roll over and let Mac divorce me. I sure as hell am not going to file. Despite evidence to the contrary I love my kids and I need my wife. Help me mom. "

ONE MONTH LATER

1840 LOCAL

ROBERTS RESIDENCE

Harriett had had enough. The Rabbs were so well suited. Just like her and Bud. How could this be crumbling? In an effort to get the reconciliation on the road she had invited the Rabb clan to spend that Sunday with the Roberts clan. So far ... nada!

She came out with the tray of drinks. "Here you are Harm. See? She smiled at him "I can say your name."

"When you concentrate." He teased.

"I know." She agreed. "Where's Bud?"

"He is more man than I. He's off some where with AJ, David and Catherine. I said a prayer." He informed her.

"Could you help the Colonel in the kitchen? She will be bringing some of the food out. I'm going to check on Bud. The four of them are too quite."

"OK" Harm raised himself slowly out of the chair and headed for the kitchen.

ROBERTS KITCHEN

Mac had her back to the door. "Oh Harriett good you're back. The first batch is ready but you may need Bud to help you."

She started when she heard her husband's voice instead. "There was a time when you didn't need to see to know I had entered a room."

She just stared at him.

He took a step forward.

She took a step backward.

He stopped, as did she.

Stalemate.

Mac watched him as she tried to gage what was playing in his mind. Her woolgathering was suddenly interrupted. He had said something she focused. Oh Lord!! He was singing to her and had moved up close to her. She was rooted to the spot.

Harm realized that Mac had "left" the room. Inspiration struck. They were alone in the house. He knew for certain that Harriett would not find that quartet in a hurry. He would sing to her the way he used to but had stopped. Could the lack of the small things have brought us to this?

She had not moved. It was like a dance between a snake charmer and his snake. Harm moved up to her and around her but never touched. They were in each other's orbit and Harm was weaving the

spell. She remained still but her eyes never left him they followed him.
