JAG/Dallas Challenge - I personally wouldn't be too surprised if Singer were related to JR-perhaps a long lost daughter?

Not that we'll ever see JR on JAG, but the idea is funny. You have to figure, JR more than likely has connections in DC-who have connections at the Pentagon...perhaps could make SECNAV jump a few hoops.

Title: Dallas/The Next Generation

FRIDAY - 1320 LOCAL

DALLAS, TEXAS

Mac sipped her cup of coffee and closed her eyes to savor the pure pleasure of the action. Harm sat across from her.

“That had to be the hardest trial I’ve ever been involved in.  It was a dog fight!” Harm admitted.

Never opening her eyes Mac replied, “Considering whom the other dog was.”

“Mac we have been on apposing teams before but this case just seemed to have a life of it’s own.” He continued.

“And now we wait.”

“… and wait. It’s been two days!” He lamented.  “But when all is said and done I’d rather wait with you than anyone else.”

She opened her eyes and without thinking said, “Is that all you want to do with me Commander wait?” Their eyes locked and before he could reply there were a cough. They both turned to the source.

There stood an immaculately dressed woman. The suit was simple but Mac smelt money.  She had to be in her late fifties and when she spoke it was with a Southern drawl that caressed every word she uttered.  “Excuse me.  But I’m looking for Lauren Ewing?”

“Mac frowned.  “We have a Lauren Singer but no Ewing.”

The woman apologized “My apologies I meant Singer.  Yes Lauren Singer.”

“Next door to your left ma’am.” Harm instructed.

“Thank ye.” And with that she left leaving a trace of her perfume as evidence of her presence.

“What was that about?” Harm wondered.

“Curiosity killed the cat Commander.” Mac closed her eyes and returned to her relaxing mode.

Ten minutes later the woman returned following Lt. Singer.  “Sir? Ma’am?”

Mac cursed silently.

“Yes Lieutenant” Harm replied.

“This is my Aunt… er Mrs. Sue Ellen Ewing.  This is Lt. Colonel Sarah Mackenzie and Commander Harmon Rabb Jr. Mrs. Ewing wishes to extend an invitation to you all for a small gathering she is having.”

Mac stood. “Ma’am thank you very much. But neither the Commander or myself have come with appropriate attire and we are awaiting the verdict in a murder trial.”

Sue Ellen looked amused.  “First of all the dress code is jeans and t-shirt. Second it’s a bar-b-que.  If the boys are to be believed they have already killed five steers, six pigs and twenty chickens to start. I’m not taking no for an answer.”

“Sir Ma’am. The verdict will not be in before Monday.” Lauren assured them.

“And how would you know that?” Mac demanded.

“Cause the Judge’ll be at the bar-b-que!” Sue Ellen chortled.

“Looks like we’re going to a bar-b-que.” Harm surrendered.

“OH good Lauren here will give you directions.  It starts at nine come whenever you’re ready.”

“That’s 0700 and not 1900” Singer informed them.

SATURDAY – 1300 LOCAL

SOUTHFORK, DALLAS

Harm finally found parking and Mac had gawked all the way in.  “What is Singer’s connection with these people?” She wondered as she stepped out.

“Money.” Harm said.

“No.” Mac corrected, “Power.”

The pair made their way through the throng towards the music and was spotted by Sue Ellen, Singer and another man at the same time.

“Colonel! Commander!” Sue Ellen called. Singer walked up with the man.  “Well Lauren you know… and this is my son John Ross the third.” She said proudly.  “Now circulate! That’s an order!”

“Colonel? Surely you have a better nom de plume than that?” John Ross oozed. Singer rolled her eyes and left.

“Mac.” She supplied.

“Mac?” he echoed.

“Short for Mackenzie. Sarah Mackenzie.”

“Ah hah! Well let’s get you a drink.” Ignoring Harm, John Ross guided Mac away.  Two steps along the way they were stopped by a man who had to be related to John Ross.

“Ross! How typical of you to capture the most beautiful woman in the place.”

“Mac my cousin Dr. Ewing.” He introduced. “Mac is a Lt Colonel.”

“A Colonel you say... Never!” He smiled and then corrected “Chris.”

“She came with Lauren.” John Ross informed him.

“NO!” Chris was shocked and turned to Mac “So tell me did you order Lauren here?”

Mac had her opening.  “I don’t know a thing about Lt. Singer.”

Chris’ face took on an exasperated look “She really took on that name?”

“She did.”

“Did what!” Mac demanded.

“Lauren is my half sister.” John Ross explained.

Chris made a corkscrew motion at his temple. “But she turned her back on it all. Took an obscure family name and joined the army.”

“Navy” Mac corrected.

“What ever.” Chris said.

Harm had made his way to the bar.

“Well there young fella!” A heavy hand fell on his shoulder.  “They treating you right?”

“Yes sir.” Harm assured the man.

“Name’s JR Ewing master of all you survey.”

“Commander Harmon Rabb Jr.”

“Ah my girl’s CO!”

“Sir?”

“My daughter! Lauren! You know her don’t you?” He insisted.

“She’ s….” Harm searched for something to say to the father.  “OK”

JR looked surprised “Really? Are we talking about the same person with delusions of Godhood?”

Harm chuckled well it seemed they were talking about the same person.

+          +            +

Singer was NOT having a good time.  It was only a matter of time till the clan had found out that she was in the neighborhood and now here she was. So distracted was she that she was not aware of a woman walking up to her.

“Lauren.”

Singer turned and came face to face with her mother.

“Say something.”

“Still married to the Greek? Still sleeping with your sister’s husband?” Singer asked she really had no interest.

“Is that really what you wanted to say?” Kristen prompted.

Singer turned to move away.  “Don’t” her mother begged.

“What do you want.” Singer was irritated.

Her mother deflated “Nothing.”

Singer walked away.

John Ross had managed to get away from Chris and he and Mac were at the stables.  “Ride?”

“Of course.”

He saddled up two horses and they were off.

+          +            +

Harm’s eyes narrowed, “SECNAV?”

“Commander!” The crusty Secretary of the Navy replied. “I see you are moving up in the world.”

“Happened to be in the right place.” He took a sip of his drink.

“What else is new? You here alone?”

“No sir Colonel Mackenzie is around.”

“Of course she is.”

+          +            +

“Bobby!” JR called.

“Hey JR.” The brothers met.

“Seen that filly my son has collared? Man if I were younger!”

Bobby shook his head.  “If you were younger you’d need rest! Besides I hear she’s a Marine!”

“Can you believe it? My Colonel never looked like that when I was in the Army.” JR complained.

“Marines.” Bobby corrected.

Harm stood at the French doors looking at the view but not seeing it. He hadn’t seen Mac since they had arrive ten hours ago. It was late, it was dark and he was worried.

“Looking for the Colonel?” Singer walked up to him.

Harm just looked at her.

“Knowing John Ross he’s probably got her in his bed by now… Sir.” She enlightened him.

“The Colonel can take care of herself.” He informed her.

“Sir permission to speak freely?”

“You mean that’s not what you normally do?”

“Sir why don’t you just marry the Colonel?  The two of you are obviously in love so put us out of our misery.” There she had said it.

His eyes narrowed.  “Dismissed Lieutenant.”

She walked away with a spring in her step and unperturbed.

+          +            +

John Ross had dominated Mac’s time and she had flourished under his attention with the full knowledge that it was an elaborate foreplay.

They sat on a garden bench. She could see Harm and Singer speaking at the French doors. It was already 2309 local and she was working on away to get rid of Harm.  After all if foreplay was this elaborate she just had to see the main course!

There was a shot.  Mac was on her feet.  At that late hour the music was low the people few and it could be clearly heard. Even at that distance her eyes searched and found Harm’s.

There was a second shot and John Ross slumped forward.

+          +            +

Harm heard the shot and watched Mac’s reaction indicating that she had heard it too. He saw John Ross clutch his chest.

Harm’s eyes locked with Mac’s.

There was a second shot and Harm was galvanized into movement.

+          +            +

Harm reached Mac with a running tackle.  “Stay down!” He moved towards the source of the shot.

“Like hell.” She replied.

“Ewing has been shot.” He informed her.

“What!” She hadn’t even noticed.

Harm dived into the dark leaving Mac to coordinate the attention to John Ross.  He came round the corner and came face to face with Christopher Ewing who had Lauren Singer in a vice grip.

“Chris Ewing.” He said.

“Rabb.” Harm said. “She?… “

“Indeed.” He hauled her in “Come on Ms Ewing.”

“Singer” She growled.

“Ewing” He insisted.

+          +            +

Harm moved to Mac’s side. “You ok?”  She nodded and slumped against him. “What’s happening?”

“JR Ewing father to John Ross is in there with SECNAV.” She replied.

The door suddenly swung open and the SECVNAV swept the room. He spotted who he was looking for. “Mackenzie! Rabb! In here ASAP!!”

The two jumped to and followed him in.  It was a library and the two men were seated. JR indicated that they too should take a seat. They did.

“There will be no prosecution of Lt. Singer.” SECNAV announced.

“Sir!” The two chorused. Harm deferred to Mac. “Sir there is a case for attempted murder not to mention conduct unbecoming!”

“Darlin” JR drawled “This here is a family feud. No need to get the government involved.”

“With all due respect sir. The government is involved. You’re daughter is and officer and as such is subject to the UCMJ.”

“Not anymore.” The SECNAV’s gravelly voice cut in.  The JAG team looked at him for clarification. He provided it when he said, “As of this moment Lt. Singer has been discharged from the service and I shall not convene a court martial. I’ll speak with AJ when we get back.”

Silence.

“Understood!” he challenged.

“Understood.” They replied even if they didn’t.

“Good. Dismissed.” He said.

+          +            +

As Harm and Mac drove away he said. “We must do this more often. Go out that is.”

“Yeah.” She agreed “Haven’t had this much fun since the Embassy Affair.”
