Packet Switching
A set of protocols in which messages are divided into packets before they are transmitted. Each packet is then sent individually and may follow different routes to the destination. When all the packets arrive at the destination, they are rejoined to form the original message.

Most Wide Area Network (WAN) protocols, including TCP/IP, are based on packet switching
