This series was set during the time when the Ching Dynasty was ruled by the atrocious Queen Tsui Hei. Adam came from a rich family, where he was the only son. Like most Han people at the time, Adam’s goal was to help his country fight against the Manchus. It was also during this time that there was chaos in China due to the fact that many other countries wanted to seize China.

During his mission to fight the French out of China, he met Carina Lau. Carina was the leader of a secret society that wanted to overthrow the government. Carina and Adam are different in terms of logic and goal. Contrary to Adam, Carina wanted to overthrow the Ching Dynasty because she is loyal to her Ming Dynasty. Another reason for her rebellion is the deep hatred she had of the queen.

Meanwhile, Adam’s father wanted him to marry Kathy Chow. At the time, Kathy’s father died and Adam’s family wanted to repay Kathy’s family for the help that they provided. Thus the idea of marriage seemed to be a suitable idea. However, to add more conflict to the story, Adam’s character was in love with Carina’s character and Kathy’s character was in love with Adam’s character. Needless to say, Adam escaped the arrangement and headed towards Peking to enter the “Trang Nguyen (Chang Yun)” contest. Simon Yam Tak Wah also entered the contest. Although they had the same intelligence level, Adam won the contest. Thus, Adam became the Trang Nguyen.

One day, Adam was assigned to destroy a gang of revolutionists who were robbing and killing many people. The leader of the revolutionists was, of course, Carina. Carina and Adam didn’t want to hurt each other. Acting upon what his heart told him, Adam released Carina from prison. Due to his actions, he was replaced by Simon Yam as the Trang Nguyen.

Towards the end of the series, there was a duel between Simon and Adam. This resulted in the death of Simon, which made Adam the winner. Meanwhile, Kathy eventually died, trying to save Adam from the soldiers. Her actions made Adam regret that he wasn’t good to her when she was alive. In the end, Adam cut his hair and joined Carina and the other revolutions to overthrow the Ching Dynasty.
