"What The Bleep Do We Know?" is one of the strangest movies I have ever seen, but I am glad i saw it. This movie challenged me to think carefully about and question the way I perceive the world around me. One topic that I didn't understand at first but became more clear to me as the movie progressed, was the theory that we can't see things that we have never seen or even thought about before. They gave the very convincing example of a native American looking at Columbus' ships but not seeing them until after several days of seeing them. After this period of developing and understanding the sight of the ships could he truly see them. This seemed like a far fetched idea until I tried to think of something that I have never seen or thought about before. I came up with nothing. Then I thought, "How can I think of something I have never thought about before?" I don't think I can. Another idea presented in the movie was looking at yourself through the eyes of the ultimate observer. This of course reminded me of living an examined life. But then I thought of the "ultimate observer". This is seeing yourself with unbiased motives; without bullshitting myself. This means not making excuses for the problems in my life or making myself look better than I am in my mind. One more topic dealt with was that of us changing and controlling the behavior of water with our thoughts and how we can do the same with ourselves. In water, a man was able to create beautiful crystals with happy thoughts but when he thought of hatred the water became discolored and ugly. The scientists in the film discussed how we could affect our cells to be influenced by positive thoughts and make ourselves healthier, happier, human beings. What we can learn from Amanda and her story is that the things we perceive may not be reality. |
