Challenges to Faith

There are three main challenges to faith.
These are atheism, scientism and materialism.

Scientism:Scientism is the idea that we don't need religion or faith because science can explain everything. All of questions about the world and our problems can be solved by the theories of science.

Atheism: Atheism is the belief that there is no God. There are two types of atheism, practical atheism, and positive atheism. practical atheism is when people may or may not believe in God but don't paricipate in their belief at all. Positive atheism is when people believe there is no God and so they profess their belief and try to get other people to agree with their belief.

Materialism/Consumerism  &
Dehumanization: This is the idea of people becoming more interested in material goods and dedicating their lives to obtaining these things.

Thomas Hobbes: He believed humans were controlled by their animalistic urges and that they would never amount to much due to greed and paranoia.

Friedrich Nietzsche: He believed that in society the stronger people will dominate the weaker and determine the way the world lives. He also thought the human race would evolve into a super race if they were able to deny the existence of God.

Ignatius Loyola: Believed that humans were made in God's own image and that humans and everything on Earth were made to worship God.

We also watched the movie, "A Crisis of Fatih". They some things I liked and some I did not fully agree with. I liked their ideas about how religion should keep you asking questions and dissatisfied and constantly searching for the answers to your big problems of life.

One thing I didn't like was their idea of a regimented life being the source of all evil. Maybe I didn't understand what they meant but it seemed that they thought people getting up at the same time, going to work and doing the same thing, and getting home the same time and going to bed the same time was leading to bad things. They claimed that the people didn't take time for reflection and trying new things or changing their life at all. I think that most people in the world are not able to live in any way except for regimented. They have to get up early for work and work all day and then they get home and have to take care of their family and rest up for the next day. This is the only way most people are able to provide for their family and themselves. If these people broke away from this regimented life they would not survive. I don't see people trying to survive as the cause for evil.

One question I have is: Does the media control the masses or do the masses control the media? I think the masses have control over the media but refuse to use it and so they are, in a way, allowing the media to take their power away. It's a sort of revolution that the masses could easily put down but they choose not to because it is easier not to. It is to let people tell you what to think rather than to try to and develop a worldview or opinion of your own.
