This week's main topic that we dicussed was Reason. Reason is the process by which we use what we know to arrive at what we do not know. There are three types of thinking. EXPERIENCE is when we use our five senses to take in the world around us and make deductions about what we sense. AUTHORITY is knowledge we obtain from other people. Even if we have not experienced something firsthand we can trust other people to give us the correct information on something that they have experienced. REASON is when we use what we know to make conclusions and solve problems about what we do not know. We also learned about the five steps of critical thinking. 1)Knowing the Facts 2)Remembering the Principle of Contradiction 3)Define the Terms 4)Be Intellectually Humble 5)Looking for Different Perspectives. We also learned about the process of knowing: 1)Perceiving 2)Categorizing 3)Evaluating 4)Symbolizing 5)Testing ONE GOOD QUESTION |
