Journal 2
This Chapter's main topic was the Human Condition. The Human Condition is "a specific term in philosophy. It means the situation or condition, in which every human being finds himself or herself by virtue of being human.

Another major topic studied in this chapter was The Problem of Evil. What is the problem of evil? When we state that God exists, is omnipotent, and is all good, and we state that evil exists, we are contradicting of the first three statements which throws all of the beliefs of Christianity out the window. So how can we possibly believe all four of these statements to be true?

This week we watched the movie "What the Bleep Do We Know?". It discussed the way our brains perceived reality and challenged some commonly accepsted ideas with strong, persuasive evidence that left me wondering about how I encounter my own life.

We learned and read about M. Scott Peck's theories about "maps". He writes that maps are our connections in life among events, peoples, and past experiences that help us develop our worldview, whether it be a well rounded outlook on life or a poor, closed minded worldview.

We also learned about Thomas Jefferson's ideas on how to "Develop an Honest Heart".
Jefferson lists three inportant things in life. These are three things that should make you a happier, healthier person.
1)Develop an Honest Heart
2)Develop a Knowing Head
3)Develop a Strong Body

We also discussed the idea of the choice between the red pill or the blue pill from "The Matrix". We talked about how most people would choose blue pill because it is the easier choice to make and the easier life to live. Then we learned that people like Jesus, Martin Luther King Jr., Socrates, and of course Neo, were red pill kinds of people who led lives that helped humanity but eventually got them all killed.

ONE GOOD QUESTION
"Would I choose the red pill or the blue?" I would like to think that I am a red pill person but the blue does seem to be the safer more logical decision, especially after seeing how through history, red pill people are persecuted and even killed in the end, despite the wisdom they have to offer to humanity.

ONE WAY TO BE BETTER, MORE FAITHFUL PERSON
I think that I can be a better, more faithful person by developing my map throughout my life instead of stopping by middle age like Peck talked about. I want to be the kind of person who can expand their life until they die and have a huge map.
