JOURNAL 6 | ||||||
The Human Jesus | ||||||
In this chapter we studied the human Jesus. We read the gospel of Luke as well as "The Jews News" and we watched a movie about Jesus and his teachings called "Portrait of a Radical". Jesus's actions, words and values were what we studied most instead of talking about the theology or faith part of Jesus's life. One thing that I found the most helpful in determining Jesus's attitude and lifestyle were his words and teachings. The sermon on the mount seemed to be the most interesting of Jesus's teachings because it sums up all of his beliefs and stated clearly what God expects of us. This sermon seemed different than his usual speeches and actions because he seemed usually secretive and mysterious in his words which seemed to me to be very ineffective in teaching people and seemed to be more confusing for his listeners than helpful. Jesus was also always on the move. He was traveling from town to town and whenever he stopped he was still trying to teach smaller crowds rather than large ones and seemed to be trying to avoid people at times which I didn't understand. He came to teach people about God and heal people so why didn't he try to allow as many people as possible to experience him. It may be argued that he would have been killed and was doing this in order to avoid the scribes and pharisees. But didn't Jesus know he was going to die. If so he could have kept trying to help as many people as possible and made his teachings and actions known to the world. Possibly if he had done this he ay have gained enough support that people would have stopped his death and he could have continued his work. |
