International Relay for Life
HOME
The Relay for Life is an that was set up in the mid-1980s by Dr. Gordy Klatt, to raise money and awareness for the American Cancer Society. Today, it has grown into an event so large that the city of St. Louis alone has multiple throughout the year.
The idea at the relay is to have somone from your team walking the track at all times. This is a tall order once you see that it goes from 7p.m. to 7a.m. with live music and games and such. Food and entertaintment make it easier to stay the night though. It is a great place not only to take your friends, but also to meet new people, and hear the stories they have. I love it.
My family has a "team" that participates in one anually near my house. They really are a blast, so you should get more information about one near you, and try to organize your own team and raise some money. The race itself is really a site to see. The are people of all ages walking or running. Everyone is happy and socializing with each other, and getting along great. It is one of the rare times in our society today where people get along.
