Journal 4: Catholic Morality
  1.  One paragraph summary of the key idea summarizing the key idea of the topic of the week:
I think that the key idea of this section is one of the definitions we had of conscience.  It states that "conscience is a judgement of reason whereby the person recognizes the moral quality of a concrete act that he is going to perform, is in the process of performing, or has already performed."  All of the ideas of this section center around conscience, and using it to make morally correct decisions.  Using the Ten Building Blocks and the virtues we studied, we apply them to better inform our conscience and shape it correctly.

   2.  List and explain three of the most important ideas you want to remember from this section:
First, I would like to remember the Ten Building Blocks of Catholic Social Teaching.  They and ten carefully intertwined guidlines that help us when making moral decisions, and in reflecting on our life finding areas in which to improve.  I also like it because it reminds me of Aristotle's idea of ships with and without rudders.  This gives people a rudder.
Second, I would like to remember the methods of moral decisions.  The one I studied in particular was the "LISTEN" method.  These methods lead people in a step-by-step process that helps aid them in making the correct moral decision.  I really like it becayse of the structure it gives.  I hope to be able to remember this next time I am faced with a difficult moral decision of my own.
Finally, I would like to remember the idea from the Cathchism about Freedom.  "It is not freedom from, but freedom to."  It is important to realize that we are rarely "free."  There are so many other outside influences on us that we hardly even realize.  I think that once we realize this, we are closer to freedom than we were before.  It is sort of like Plato's Allegory of the Cave, and once we study this, we are closer to exiting the cave.

Conscience
  4.  One good question that I would like to keep with me to ponder:
Is my conscience well informed, and do I make good moral choices?  If not, why?  What is stopping me?

   5.  What can I try to do to make me a better person:
I think that expanding my horizons with method such and LISTEN and OPTION, teach us new ideas and points of view we never thought of before.  With that comes a greater understanding, and hopefully I could use that to teach others, and put it into practice in my everyday life.
