Bench

February 23, 1998

Looking at the park bench
With the bar code in the back
Reading it’s history
Sharing it’s past

Lisa + Michael
Are you still together
Has your love lasted
Like your initials in this bench
Through the harsh and cold weather

A + P ’96
Who were you?
Where are you?
Have you forgotten this?

As I sit here in the park
My time spent with Bill
The day growing old
Elaine at home, feeling ill
I’m reminded of what it means
To go out there and
Follow my dreams

As long as I am true to myself
As long as I do not quit
I will endure with all of my health

And this bench, when I need it
Will give me a place to sit
And hold my head in my hands
To drift and dream of what’s ahead
And achieve the goals I’ve set myself to
In this great concrete land

Be careful Bill
Inside your cave
Holding those boys
In that special way
