FEAR MONGERING: spreading discreditable, misrepresentative information designed to induce fear and apprehension. |
Tedd Koren | NOTICE:
Chiropractic anti-vaccinationist Dr. Tedd Koren was sued in 2002 by Dr. Stephen Barrett,
M.D., founder of Quackwatch and Chirobase, for libel and false
reporting. An arbitration panel agreed with Dr. Barrett's claims and awarded
him general and punitive damages. Link. A copy of the deposition taken from Dr. Koren is available online. Readers are invited to read the actual deposition and decide for themselves whether Koren's responses are open, candid and professional; or whether they represent obfuscation and dissembling. The arbitration panel apparently made their decision. ====================================================== Tedd Koren, DC is an exception to the anti-vaccinationists in that he has a health degree, in chiropractic, although from Sherman College, the "straightest of the straight" (and the least committed to legitimate science) of the chiropractic colleges. Dr. Koren practices very little chiropractic as such, but instead operates Koren Publications, Inc, based in Philadelphia. The inventory of Koren Publications includes posters, brochures, audio and video tapes, and assorted books aimed at the chiropractic market. Dr. Koren dispenses a brand of pseudo-religious zealotry claiming chiropractic spinal 'adjustments' can cure virtually every ailment known to man, including cancer. He is especially noted for dispensing a poorly written, unscientific, and miserably researched series of paperbacks, written by laymen, alleging virtually all social and health illnesses known to mankind are attributable to vaccines. His materials attempt to make up in gloss and hype for what they lack in scientific credibility. In June, 1994 Consumer Reports produced an article on chiropractors. While noting both benefits and drawbacks to chiropractic care the article uniquely singled out Koren's materials and described them as: "Filled with misinformation about standard medical care . . ." Examples of Dr. Koren's strange claims and approaches to health
care include the following: Despite countless instances of feedback from his own colleagues that his materials were substandard, Dr. Koren has chosen sloppy science over honest portrayals of scientific evidence. |
