Harris Coulter's "A Shot in the Dark":

In this paperback tome Coulter claims that the DPT vaccine resulted in SIDS, encephalitis, seizures, epilepsy,  juvenile-onset diabetes, cranial nerve palsies, etc.  In short, Coulter blames virtually everything but global warming on the DPT vaccine.

Coulter's standard approach was to use a highly selective, biased and misrepresentative approach to the professional literature.  In the 1970's/early 1980's several studies noted the temporal association (i.e., occurring in the same timeframe) of vaccines with various childhood ailments, such as SIDS.  Lacking comprehensive epidemiological data it was uncertain whether this association was causal (i.e., did the vaccine actually cause the injury?).

Since then many hundreds of studies, done worldwide by universities, governments, research facilities, public health departments, hospitals and practicing physicians have added a tremendous amount of additional data which have done much to allay the previous fears.  Harris Coulter, however, has systematically ignored these later, larger studies.  He considers any study which does not support his bias to be 'flawed.'   It seems the only studies he finds acceptable are the early, limited ones that are more amenable to his manipulations.

A more detailed review of the professional literature regarding lack of association with childhood ailments is available elsewhere on this website.
