A review of the Vancouver show, April 22, 2003 Before I blab about the show: I was coming off one of the most grueling school weeks of my life having written three finals in one day (two at the same time). That evening after the tests we were already speeding down the highway. We barely slept that night (it was at a freaky trucker rest stop!) and the next night we were standing in front row. You can imagine my total exhaustion/hyperventilation mode! Okay, so there we were all dorky in our shirts (we custom made some "clever" tees) in the gorgeous Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver. Almost half the crowd was made up of gay guys (which was total bliss for me and my friends) and the other half were total "supposed" hipsters that really had no clue about anything. Anyway, the DJ was awesome, but we were getting impatient by the time 9:30 rolled around. Before the show the four of us were all in a row front and center but a camera guy asked to stand between us (which was the best thing that could have happened to us!). Eventually my best bud and I stayed up front and my two other friends stood right behind us (we were like almost in the center but more to the right). Let me tell you- that was the best spot to be in for that show!! It was amazing how perfectly everything went. Okay, so I don't remember the order of how things went so I'll just give a point-form synopsis: - Casey came out and looked like a GOD! His platinum hair was genius. It was weird getting used to the lip-synching, and just the general experience altogether. I think the first song was Invisible, so I could have seriously just died after that point in the show and it wouldn't have mattered. How on earth can Casey be so hot? - For the 15th, Casey stood right in front of us. Casey doesn't break eye contact so it's kind of disconcerting to just stare at the guy, so I tended to look at the rest of the group half the time. - Okay, apparently FS couldn't do Horizon at the previous show, but as soon as I saw his suit spread out on the floor I went mental! I swear, that had to be one of the best parts of the show. For anyone that doesn't know what happens, Casey puts on this brilliant suit with flowing bits of chiffon and he poses in front of a wind machine. It sounds cheesy, but it was hypnotic. My mouth was gaping. (Sidenote: I was yawning every two seconds from "total exhaustion/brain shutting down after exams". After our show, I read that Casey once gave hell to a girl that yawned. Thank god he didn't see me! Although, part of me wishes he had!) - Peanuts stood right over us for the "puking" bit and the four of us were totally covered in red after he was done. It was so amazing. I actually joked before the show that I would probably go blind (knowing my luck) and I actually got some red stuff in one eye! I was laughing so hard. - Actually I laughed a LOT! It doesn't feel right to laugh at a concert, but seeing Casey counting his steps ("It's all math people!") and then seeing him dance in a completely enraged state- I mean Casey just lost it. He had this tantrum moment where he was literally on the floor kicking and screaming like a two year old. I was near tears by that point. Casey is freaking hilarious. More about him later... - Peanuts was our favorite by far. He was so adorable and totally sweet. When he brought out his camera to take pictures of the audience, my sister grabbed his leg. He looked down and said "You?" and he backed up to take a picture of the four of us. I actually hadn't witnessed the exchange. I was off looking at Casey when I suddenly noticed Peanuts motioning for me to move in. We all mugged for the camera and he actually said "Ready?" and he took the shot! How sweet is that? I mean, it doesn't sound like a big deal, but it's that audience interaction that makes a world of difference. Peanuts also scolded the person who responded "who cares!" to "who won the hockey game?" YOU ROCK JEREMIAH!! - After the whole paint bit, a dancer had lost a feather. We took it (obviously) and now we have an awesome souvenir from the show! (Mind you, we also took the glitter bits that Casey stepped on. We're so crazy! In a few years I'll be selling glitter bits on eBay.) - Another prediction I had made: I would probably be knocked unconscious during Casey's crowd-surfing moment. That almost came true. The first time he jumped into the crowd it was going to be right over us. So, in jumps Casey as I look over, my sister is having this Free Willy moment. Ha ha! It was the funniest thing I've ever seen. He was gliding over her, and her outstretched arm grazed down his whole body. Anyway, I don't remember if it was the first or second time he jumped in but on his way back I suddenly felt this pressure on top of my head and for some reason I kind of ducked and suddenly Casey was sitting on the stage right in front of me. I have never laughed so hard in my life CASEY SAT ON MY HEAD!! What was I doing that I didn't boost him with my arms (or didn't grope him madly like my friends had)? I felt that pressure on my head all night long. What a retarded, yet blessed, moment! Ha ha ha! - Of course all of the cameras happened to be on us the entire time since the whole show seemed to be happening on our side of the stage. Just my luck! It was awesome standing right by the camera guy cuz they all kept mugging for him and I was just right there in their faces! - Casey's costumes were so DAMN SEXY!! Who wears Dior without a "kidnapping-by-fashion-crazy-girls" wish? Sexy turned into adorable when he took off his shoes and performed in his cute white socks the rest of the night. - Now for the best part of the night (staged or not): Some guy threw ice at Casey. Casey lost it and yelled something about respecting him. He kept freaking out and pointed him out to Peanuts. Peanuts came out a little later and Casey stopped the show a bit so Peanuts could dump a bottle of cold water on the guy. Then a little while later something happened (I couldn't hear too much cuz this all happened on the other side of the stage), and Casey pulled the guy on stage and started wailing on him. He was totally pulling the guys hair out. "The Beating" looked real (although you can never tell with FS)! Peanuts took the guy away... Anyway- IT KICKED ASS! I have been at one too many concerts where people chucked things and the band would just leave. But now the singer was actually dealing with it right off the bat and did it properly! Some people were apparently put off by the whole incident but let me tell you that most of the crowd cheered! - After the show, once we got out, the streets were going mental cuz the Canucks had won the series. It was such an amazing atmosphere. It felt like they were all going nuts for Fischerspooner. All in all, it rocked. Go see FS if you can. You will regret it like HELL if you don't go! Peace, Iris. |
