The trouble with W...
Having trouble with W?
If you are having problems being authenicated or opped by W, there are some things that can be tried first without having to wait on me coming on channel.
1. Is W actually there? It has a tendency to be taken offline by cservice occasionally and sometimes a W is on undernet but it is just being used as a nick by a cservice op to protect it while W is offline.
2.W is there but is it lagged? You can do a ping on it and see.
3. W is there and not lagged but you are still not being opped. If you are unsure what your nick was exactly when I added you to the access then go to http://cservice.undernet.org. Go to W, type #scotland and click on GO BABY! You will see what nick was used to access you. Then, back on channel, type /msg W access #scotland nick W should come back and tell you that yes you have access, an access number and also that auto op is ON. If it doesn't and says 'no match' then you need me....:)
4.OK it says you have access and still you are not being opped and if it says authenication failed or even if it says you are authenticated ok, the next
thing to do is the password line again. I have found that for some reason as yet unknown, W loses some people's passwords or does not lose them but loses the auto op command although it says it is ON. So
you type
/msg w@channels2.undernet.org newpass #scotland yerpasswd .It will come back and say 'password changed.' Then you login as normal with /msg w@channels2.undernet.org login #scotland yerpasswd.
5. If that doesn't work, then hang around for a bit...I am always around sometime. The only way I have found to fix up stuff like this from my end is by removing you as a user and then adding you again. Why this should work is anyone's guess...:) A pain in the ass this I know but for some reason cservice like it that way. I had never used passwords for ops or channel before this but there ain't nuthin I can do about it.
Nae borra. Ian. (meok, #scotland channel manager)
