Prologue: A painful farewell

"Goodbye everyone. I will miss all of you." Kagome said quietly stepping farther from the Bone Eaters well to give Sango a hug.

"Goodbye Kagome don't forget us." Sango said using all of her restraint to keep her from crying.

"I could never forget you guys. I've learned so much." Kagome said squeezing a little harder. She let go and turned to Miroku. "You've gotta stop being perverted and become mature." She said as she hugged him.

"I will. This will be the last time." He said massaging her butt. She slapped his hand away laughing. He started to laugh as well. "Remember the spells I've taught you. So when you need them you'll have them." Miroku said cutting off the laughter. Kagome just nodded and smiled. She walked over to Kaede.

"Look after InuYasha he can't take care of himself." Kagome said looking into the elder's eyes.

"Hey I heard that!" InuYasha defended. Kagome turned to look at InuYasha then looked back to Kaede as she spoke.

"Remember to seal off the well with that spell I told you to use. We don't want anything or anyone following you into the future." At this InuYasha visibly flinched.

"I will remember." Kagome said heart fallen. She was on her way to say goodbye to InuYasha when......

"Kagome!" a kitsune fox jumped at her from the edge of the well. The fox leaped into her arms making her almost lose her balance.

"Oh Shippou. You can't cling to someone all your life you have to stick up for yourself. Especially when someone like InuYasha is picking on you cuz I won't be here to 'restrain' him." Kagome said looking over Shippou's shoulder to see the hanyou smile.

"No Kagome I'm not letting you go. I still think that you should stay here. Why do you have to go back?" Shippou started to cry. Kagome saw this and let a few tears fall down her face.

"She has family in her time and a life to live. We must let her go." Miroku said taking the crying kitsune out of her arms. "Come on guys lets leave Kagome and InuYasha alone for their goodbyes." Miroku ushered everyone towards the village. Kagome watched them leave letting her tears dry. She did not want InuYasha to see her crying and think that she was weak. When the gang was out of sight she turned to see InuYasha leaning against a tree with his arms in his sleeves and he was......crying.

"InuYasha?" Kagome said walking over to him. She paused.....and lifted her hand to wipe away his tears--he quickly grabbed her hand. She gasped.

"Don't."

"InuYasha..."

"You know that little brat is right." He looks up at her. "You should stay here." He releases her hand. She looks at her hand and rubs it feeling his gaze still on her.

"You know I can't stay here. If it were my choice I would stay." Kagome said looking directly into his gaze. They stood there for a while holding each others gaze when Kagome broke the silence.

"What are gonna do after I leave? I mean besides protecting the shikon no tama." Kagome asked knowing exactly where the jewel was around his neck.

"I dunno. I'll probably keep fighting the evil here in the Warring states period. What are you gonna do in your time?" InuYasha answered careful of not mentioning him mourning over not being with her.

"I'll take my grandfather's place and take over the shrine." Kagome said avoiding the subject of having children in the future and finding a husband. When Kagome was trying so hard not to think of that she didn't realize InuYasha moving forward to kiss her. She finally realized it when he kissed her and wrapped his arms around her. She started kissing him back when she heard BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! She felt InuYasha break from their kiss and push her behind him. She finally came to her senses when she heard InuYasha pull out the Tetsuiga. She saw a big fire youkai and his burnt forest trail behind him.

"EEEK!" Kagome cried trying to make herself less visible behind InuYasha by streching his clothes and covering her but forcing InuYashas clothes to cling to him. He couldn't help it he let out a laugh. Kagome realized that he was laughing despite the danger. And she stepped out from behind him. "What is wrong with you?" She asked the hanyou that was shaking with laughter. Kagome was worried. She looked up at the very confused fire youkai. Now she started panicking. "What are you laughing at?" InuYasha was gasping for breath. And he pointed at the youkai then at Kagome.

"You are laughing at me?" The youkai roared. InuYasha shook his head signaling that there was more that he had to say.

InuYasha caught his breath. "The way she reacted....with my clothes....a mere low class demon." InuYasha started laughing again. But it was controlled laughter. Kagome was offended. All she could do was stand there.

"Low class! What are you talking about, half-breed!" Yelled the youkai extending his claws and attacking InuYasha. InuYasha quit laughing and dodged the attack with ease. The tetsuiga transformed as InuYasha slung it over his shoulder.

"Lets get this over with I've got only a couple more minutes to spend with the girl I love." InuYasha said looking at Kagome with a seriousness she'd never seen in them before. She stared back with a dreamy look in her eyes. The youkai attacked the unknowing InuYasha. But Kagome noticed.

"InuYasha look out!" Kagome yelled pointing at the youkai that was charging straight at him. He looked at the demon and just got out of the way. He slashed the demon in half causing dark blue liquid to splash all over Kagome. InuYasha started laughing again. And Kagome followed shortly after.

When the laughter finally stopped Kagome leaned against the nearest tree and rested. InuYasha jumped down from the tree so he could be next to Kagome. "This is really gross." Kagome making a funny face as she examined her school outfit covered in blue goo. Inuyasha smiled.

"It brings out your eyes." InuYasha jokingly pointed out.

"You think so?" Kagome said batting her eyes and trying a couple of poses. They both smiled.

"I really do love you." InuYasha suddenly said.

"Really?" Kagome asked raising an eyebrow. She walked over to InuYasha and jumped into his arms giving him a hug getting blue goo all over him in the process.

"Yuck!" Exclaimed InuYasha looking down at his clothes when Kagome let go.

"Still love me?" Kagome said smiling. InuYasha looked up at Kagome's face that was covered in blue liquid. He smiled. Then jumped at her being careful not to hurt her. They tumbled around and ended with InuYasha on top. ~(AN: Yeowch thats what I'm talkin about.)~ InuYasha bent down and kissed her. When he pulled up his reply was: "Of course I wouldn't have it any other way." Kagome smiled. "If thats the case then I love you too." Kagome said raising her hand to wipe some blue off InuYasha's eyebrow and saw the watch on her wrist. "Ohhhh man!" She said squirming away from InuYasha.

"What?" InuYasha asked

. "I was supposed to be home two hours ago." Kagome said remembering that she'd never see InuYasha again. "Wait I'll take pictures so we can always remember this day." She ran over to her stuff.

"Pictures? What are those?" InuYasha scratched his head never ceasing to be amazed of the things the futures holds.

"Ummm. Kinda like an instant painting of yourself." Kagome said returning with a black box that she unfolded into a weird shape.

"It's called a polariod camera. I already took pictures of everyone else. So I wouldn't forget. I also gave them each a picture of me so they definitly wouldn't forget me." Kagome said explaining everthing to him while setting it up so the two of them could take a picture together. InuYasha was still confused. "Okay I got it." She set it on the lowest branch of the nearset tree. "Okay smile InuYasha." He finally understood. As she ran over to get next to him he picked her up and smiled at the camera thingy. She looked surprized for a second then she smiled for the pictures. Two soft clicks could be heard. Kagome got down and ran over to the camera and picked it out of the tree just as she pulled out two papers. She put the papers on the ledge of the well and put the camera back in her bag. InuYasha walked over to the well to investigate. Kagome turned around. "Don't touch them. You've gotta let them develop first." She handed him a paper that was slippery smooth he looked at it. It had a painting of her on it only it wasn't a painting it looked more real. She was in her school uniform she was winking and holding up her hand in a peace sign. "That's a picture." Kagome said looking over his shoulder at the picture he was holding. He turned around she hugged him one last time. She walked over to her stuff threw her backpack and bike into the well with a little bit of trouble. She hopped on the edge of the well. "I will always love you InuYasha no matter what." She said. He looked up from the picture. "I will always love you too Kagome until the end of time. He took a step toward her but she shook her head. He stopped. She started crying. "Goodbye InuYasha." She picked up one of the two pictures that she laid on the ledge and jumped into the well. InuYasha ran to the well leaned over and yelled after her: "Kagome!" When he realized that she was gone he looked next to his right hand. There laid the picture of him holding Kagome. The both of them were covered in blue demon blood. A few tears fell and landed next to the picture. He picked up the picture and looked at the two he possesed the one with them together and the one with her by herself. He tucked them in his undershirt close to his heart and walked away from the well knowing that he'd never see his love again.

Or so he thought..........
